Calzaghe's comments are getting as stupid as his Dad's

  1. From ESB frontpage.

"Pavlik, who is he? He might get his ass kicked by Hopkins. But I think he will win the fight, mainly due to his youth. Hopkins still has the ability to make it very messy. Regardless, he is definitely over hyped.”

Calzaghe says Pavlik should beat Hopkins then goes onto say Pavlik is overhyped but at the same time Calzaghe only just managed to pull a win against Hopkins. To me this sounds like sour grapes much like his father had when Haye KO'd Enzo.

If Pavlik manages to beat Hopkins by even the absolute smallest of margins Calzaghe will look foolish because he will have equaled what Joe did. If Pavlik beats Hopkins more convincingly than Calzaghe did, well, how can Calzaghe say Pavlik is overhyped? :huh

Calzaghe needs to just shut up or put up as the saying goes.

    Its called freedom of speech

  3. I agree totally but you miss the point I'm making. If Pavlik beats Hopkins by even 1 point and is overhyped then Joe Calzaghe has just stated he himself would be overhyped too; see my point?

No I don't see your point, because Calzaghe did not win by 1 point. More like 4.

Calzaghe is a shittalker who has always liked to disrespect other fighters, this should come as a surprise to nobody.

If Pavlik gets a unanimous, or even a majority decision, that would indeed be arguably better than what Joe managed.

He's free to say it but I do think it's foolish for Joe to do so...but then the habit of bad-mouthing your opponents to your own detriment is sadly widely prevailant amongst so many fighters today. So many wanting to verbally be Muhammad Ali but so few capable of it.

    Ridiculous thread. :patsch

  9. There is a world of difference between winning a round by a point and winning the round convincingly. To my mind Joe never took any rounds with absolute authority. He won them sure, but in a hotly contested way.

Now I'm not saying Joe is useless, far from it I am a fan but saying something like this is kind of like shooting himself in the foot if Pavlik wins. This is ofc depending utterly on whether Pavlik pulls it off. I'm reserving my judgement for the weigh in.

So was Mayweather's win over De La Hoya, it doesn't make it correct.

You're right....If Pavlik beats Hopkins convincingly (something Slappy failed to do), than Calzaghe will in essence be calling himself overrated because the "overrated" Pavlik did something he himself could not do.
