no calzaghe says it now because he knows he has to milk his reputation off the latter day jones' and hopkins' that he should have fought in their prime but chose not to.

he's basking in the twilight of his career and crowing like he's the top dog. he knows he's not which is why he's been repeating himself over the past few years and trying to be his own publicist for the masses every chance he gets.

    they were excellent wins.

but to be a proven world class fighter you have to beat one....

    neither kessler nor lacy have.

Many others have been slagged off after having risen to fame, and stayed classy.

    See Kostya Tszyu, Manny Pacquiao.

    taylor of course.

taylor fought on the world stage and was marketable in the US while he beat the undisputed middleweight champ to earn that 'title'.

look, i'm not suggesting taylor is better than joe - that's up for debate - but what i am saying is that if joe wanted people outside of britain to take him seriously then he should have left warren long ago and backed up all that loud talk.

he didn't, hatton did, and that says to me while JC will always be a hot topic on these boards.

How will Calzaghe's legacy be tarnished if he doesn't fight Pavlik? Even if he does fight Pavlik and win you will just find another excuse sayin Pavlik is another Lacy

i've answered the second question to sean.

'ducking' fighters isn't an issue if you choose not to make yourself marketable on the world stage and court US networks and audiences.

you need to bring weight to the negotiating table and it is not in frank warren's philosophy to risk a cash cow locally.

calzaghe chose to subscribe to that.

any skilled fighter (and JC is very skilled) can fight off the continent and he'll rarely be taken seriously by the big boys because the business side of boxing is just as important as a 'title' for the most part.

The same Taylor who before fighting Pavlik got a SD against Cory Sanders! the only good name on his resume is Hopkins because he didnt beat Wright

    no way.

    pavlik is a proven fighter.

i've never criticised calzaghe's potential (and ability), only his reluctance to fight the most dangerous fighter available.

if JC beats pavlik that would be the defining fight he needs.

not jones or hopkins prime but good enough for me to give him his rep.
