Why are people shitting on this thread? TS is right - if Pavlik clearly beats Popkins, Calzaghe will look like a turnip, for the 1000th time.

i agree with he should fight Pavlik because it will be an amazing fight but when people look at Hopkins and Jones Jnr's records they will see how good they were and how Joe beat both of them, it's alright saying they are old and at the end of their career's but so is Joe

but while joe was beating b grade fighters and had the opportunity to go to the US and make fights with jones and hopkins, jones and hopkins were cementing their legacies only because they reigned as world champion on the world stage.

both ruled weak divisions, as did joe, but they did it taking on all comers and having the notoriety to attract the fights that kept them in the worldwide spotlight - even though neither were PPV material.

thats the essence of the argument because, even though joe was clearly the best fighter at super middle, he made no effort at all to fight PPV and build up his marketability and gain momentum for a meaningful fight.

to be honest, his only crime was that he was born in britain and, to that end, it's not right.

but both he wand warren knew how the game was played, neither wanted to fight jones or hopkins in their prime, and it's no coincidence that joe has these fights now (instead of taking on a hungrier, younger, proven opponent) that both jones and hopkins are faded.

Seems like your problem is with Warren, so why when i wrote if Pav beats Bhop Joe will fight him, you reply'd "His track record says otherwise". Youve still to tell me where in his track record this opinion is based. He's faced young, dangerous undefeated Champs before.

    (Not to you Badintentions)

As for the song and dance about Joe being mouthy about Pavlik, Kelly took pot shots at Joe (shoot him in the leg to stop him running), Joes returning the compliment. ****s the problem with that, its not Live Aid.

well warren and calzaghe go hand in hand. but sure, warren is the instigator.

i completely agree JC has fought hungry unbeaten dangerous champs before, but the reason why his track record says otherwise is because he has never done it against a fighter who has fought P4P opposition.

i think lacy and, especially kessler, showed the world that calzaghe was to be taken seriously, but that isn't enough if you want to fight the best out there.

his track record says otherwise because he never put himself in a position to fight prime jones - but he called him out from wales.

he did the same to a prime hopkins, and that's why i don't expect him to change his colours against pavlik.

i agree thats an unusual situation.

but there's no way that fight couldn't have been made if calzaghe wanted to make it happen.

how hard would it have been to get joppy (catchweight even) on a PPV undercard?

like jones said, calzaghe was "high risk, low reward".
