    Does everyone remember this little gem;

:lol: Johnson was chasing Calzaghe even resorting to writing him open letters yet Joe ducked him probably because Johnson hadn't hit 40 yet (he was 39 at the time)

All this without getting into what happened with Pavlik and Dawson :oops:

"to truly cement your legacy, you know we must fight"

i love johnson and all, but this is one of the most stupidest things a boxer has ever uttered.

and it wasn't a fight that the fans were waiting to see either... it was a good fight, but nothing more.

joe talked about retiring straight after the jones fight, so johnson calling him out at this time was stupid. joe didn't need him in the slightest. he would have won wide on the cards, and it wouldn't have done much for his legacy.

but it's all in the past so it doesn't even matter any more.

Calzaghe said in October 2007 that he was thinking about retiring in a year or so. He then fought and beat Kessler and Hopkins and topped it off by beating Jones on the 8th of October 2008 and having accomplished everything he wanted to accomplish in the sport he spent the rest of that year inactive and weighting up whether to continue boxing. He eventually decided he didn't want to be an active fighter anymore and walked away in February 2009.

There were fights out there he could take but Calzaghe had no ambition to make them after he got his big name fights with Hopkins and Jones so the only incentive to take them would be money but Calzaghe had also stated that he didn't want to end up fighting into his 40's long after his prime so wanted to go out while he was still on top. In the end Johnson simply wasn't a significant enough name nor a big enough payday to make Calzaghe reconsider his plans to retire.

    That's not a duck.

If Johnson had done anything in the last three years to that point to deserve a shot at Calzaghe you might be able to make the case for a duck but he hadn't. The only noteworthy fighter he'd beaten since 2005 was Montell Griffin, he'd lost to Tarver, Woods and Dawson and only beaten nobodies in George Khalid Jones, Richard Hall, Fred Moore, Hugo Pineda and Aaron Norwood. It could have been a good fight, and he'd have been a decent name for Calzaghe to have on his resume, but that's it.

WORLD boxing champ Joe Calzaghe has been arrested for allegedly making threats to his estranged wife Mandy.

Calzaghe, 32, was held last Thursday after police answered a 999 call to a domestic dispute.

The super middleweight title holder was questioned and released on bail.

Police will now take statements from Calzaghe and former singer Mandy, 33, before deciding whether any charges will be brought.

On Tuesday the Mirror revealed Calzaghe was dating 21-year-old BT worker Rebecca Middleton.

We told how she had dumped her medical student boyfriend, Will Adams, 21, to be with him.

And Calzaghe was pictured kissing the leggy blonde after they shared a romantic night out.

The incident with Mandy happened at an address in Cwmbran, South Wales. Insp Michael Vaughan said: "A man was arrested in connection with an allegation of threatening behaviour.

"He has subsequently been released without charge on police bail pending further inquiries."

An unofficial police source added: "There was a dispute between Calzaghe and his wife. It was serious enough for him to be arrested."

Any conviction over the incident could seriously jeopardise Calzaghe's career. He could lose his boxing licence - and a series of money-spinning fights in the US.

His arrest comes just days before one of his biggest ever bouts - a first shot at the world light-heavyweight title against American Glengoffe Johnson in Manchester on June 12.

Calzaghe claimed no one else was involved when he split from Mandy - his wife of 10 years - just weeks ago.

He insisted they were still "good friends" and that their main concern was for their three young sons.

But after being seen with Rebecca he said: "I still love my wife, but I'm single now and I went out with this girl."

Calzaghe, who has held the World Boxing Organisation title since dethroning Chris Eubank in 1997, was awarded the MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list earlier this year.

The 12-stone fighter has won all 36 of his professional bouts - and defended his title 13 times.

Mandy was always at the ringside and friends in the boxing world thought their marriage was solid.

But the pair drifted apart and in April announced they were separating.

Calzaghe said at the time: "We just reached the end of the road. It's just been one of those things."

The couple said Calzaghe would stay on at the family home and they would share custody of the children.

At the time of the split, Mandy said: "It's one of the worst things that can happen to you. There's nothing more painful - it's like a bereavement."

Incredible exposure of a shameful duck, thank you Sir Arcane.:clap: Calslappy knew his slaps wouldn't have any effect on the road warrior, he decided to avoid.

"knocked out a prime Roy Jones, and beat Antonio Tarver"

Come on Glen, you are complaining about the Dawson fight, we all know you didn't knock out a prime Roy or beat Tarver...

Calzaghe would have got little credit for beating Glen at that time, this seems almost out of character for Glen.

He really should of fought him before he retired.. It will now stand as a bad mark against him.

Looking back now, Glen Johnson would've looked great on Calzaghe's thin resume. Joe should've fought him.

Johnson style is all wrong for him, it's hard to slap when you are getting smothered, which is whi he struggled against Hopkins, with Johnson's work rate he would of made it a hard to judge ugly match
