They would have fought in 2004 if Johnson had waited instead of fighting Jones. Johnson told Dan Goosen to forget about Joe. Yet he came running back to Calzaghe when Joe became a superstar after whooping Lacy.

Sorry Arcane but i have a hard time believing Calzaghe would duck an old journeyman like Johnson to fight younger, much more dangerous fighters like Mikkel Kessler/Jeff Lacy! You do know that Johnsons resume at SMW is terrible don't u? Lacy stopped Syd Vanderpool who outpointed Johnson! Lacy also defeated Omar Sheika who beat Johnson! Do u know that Silvio Branco won nearly every round against Glenn Johnson? Richie Woodhall stopped Branco in 9!!

People also conveniently forget that many of his fights (including Lacy) had to be rescheduled. He still ended up fighting them. He wanted to reschedule the Johnson fight but like i said Johnson said he was "done" with Calzaghe.

Everybody was beating johnson before he popped up on the HBO screen and knocked out RJ! Also not once throughout calzaghes reign was johnson ranked in the ringmag SMW top 10!

I think the real problem here is that people are pissed that Jones was violently brutalised by a hard hitting, pressure fighter (Johnson) whom no gave a cat in hells chance to win! Whilst everyone picked the same type of fighter (Lacy) to brutalise Calzaghe and ended up with egg on there faces! Vent your frustratons on jones not JC.

If u want to talk of 'Ducking' then let's ask why hopkins turned down $3m to face Calzaghe in 02? In fact he doubled his money demand after the calzaghes accepted the 1st one.

 

Johnson got his ass whooped by Omar Sheika..who subsequently got his ass torn apart by Calzaghe in his next fight..

yeah...real premature stoppage this one

AND it contains the second Veit fight as a premature stoppage too!! Veit had to scrape himself off the canvas again so many times his own wife was screaming at the ref to stop the fight (poor girl was in tears too, as were the whole German crowd)
