I felt Joe made a decision to go to America to prove something, as he said he wanted to secure his legacy, but I felt when he saw the kind of money he could make in America, he slightly changed his philosophy.

I remember when he said he would never fight Roy Jones, and despite most understanding Roy was done as a top level fighter, Calzaghe went back on what he said, and decided to fight him instead of looking for a real challenge, then when the fight did not do such great numbers, I recall him complaining, saying all this rubbish about how Boxing is dying, how MMA is taking over or some ****.

There's no dought he had lost some skills. He still had enough to continue and beat Froch imo but it was clear to see he had lost a lot of power as well as punch resistance. I think he made a really good choice to retire when he did. What would be the point in going on? He'd already beaten the best of his day (prime or not) and if he beat a young guy he would get no credit.

he had enough to beat all the fighters people were asking him to face, pavlik or dawson. just that if he beat them people would not give me anymore credit so he was right to retire.

The Jones fight didn't do Calzaghe any favors as any one with half a brain could see it for the farce that it was.

I also think Calzaghe got a shock against Hopkins as given Hopkins age and his two losses to Taylor, I think Calzaghe thought the fight would be easy and that he's look good beating a big name.

Imperial1, has been schooled to such a degree that he has to come up with weak insults. But even in those insults the facts are there hurting him constantly, that Calzaghe remained undefeated having scalped Hopkins and Jones in the weight above, and Jones has been a known PEDs cheat.

Now Imperial except it, Calzaghe BEAT Hopkins & Jones.:smoke

Live with it and move on

He did rhe wright thing. More fighters should follow his example and retire instead of continuing and losing to fighters they never would have in there prime.

  9. he never had anything to be with the only ones he ever beat was a shot roy jones and and in my opinion was beaten by an old out of prime hopkins wheres was joke cokezaghe when they were ruling the division jones had to go light heavy and heavy cuz calslappy didnt wanna fight i hope he stays retired just so if he comes out and gets smashed by ward or someone i dont wanna hear oo he was rusty or hes not that same or any other excuse for the coward

Ive said this before and ill say it again there is no middle ground when it comes to people talking about calzaghe and his career. A lot of his fans will over rate him because of his undefeated record and claim he is one of the goat. His detractors will say he was a over hyped fraud. imo he was neither, he is definetly the greatest super middleweight of all time but he should be no higher than top 30 on any atg list. In saying that there does seem to be a lot people who dont give Clazaghe the credit he deserves for whatever reason

Could it be just maybe he wanted leave the fight game with all of senses in take and not fearing that he might have to wear an adult diaper at the age of 50.

He never even fought an elite figher when he was in his prime... Calzaghe is a great boxer, but no where near the level that the british believe him to be. I like calzaghe a lot, i just don't like his fanboys.
