do i sound like i think Calzaghe beat a prime Jones Jr? if you read my posts a little more slowly you might understand them better It's starts with the thread title - CALZAGHE'S FRAUD LEGACY atsch
Calzaghe is a GOD around here mate, whose talent and mercilessly constructed legacy must NOT be questioned.
Yes, then it says Meaning Calzaghe's victory over Jones Jr is one of his great conquests, which it isn't. Green KO'ing him today in 1 round is neither here nor there. Meaningless. I don't think many people regard Calzaghe as an ATG but most are prepared to acknowledge his achievements for what they were. Why you should decide to start a thread slating him based on today's result is a bit of a mystery. These type of threads were old about a year ago when they were relevant. Done to death. Boring.
Does Joe talk of RJJ as his greatest win? Does he ****! That fight was to rob some cash from the states that he felt he was owed as America had ignored him for a decade. You can continually try and pull apart his record or you can look at him as the boxer that he was. This thread seems to come up daily! Bottom line is Calzaghe answered every question that was put to him. It's funny how when he beat Hopkins everyone was quick to say Hopkins was past it. And then when Hopkins anhialated Pavlik these same people said sweet FA! All this bearing in mind that Joe was probably past his prime by this point!
That he is! lol Would Lacy have gone on to anything if Joe hadn't battered him? That fight should have been stopped (even gary shaw was calling for it to be stopped) and he took a huge amount of punishment!
Must we all go through the same arguements time after time??? Davro-no Calzaghe fan even rates his victory against Jones so this thread is meaningless. Most are embarassed he took the fight in the first place. His best wins are BHOP and Kessler.
Roy Jones Jr is one of the biggest names on Calzaghe's record. So apologies if I find it relevant that he just got beaten brutally by some middle level fighter after a points loss to JC. It shows like most of the fighters on Calzaghe's hitlist - they all went on to get beaten by average fighters of their generation, or were well into their late 30s when Calzaghe was ready for them. When Calzaghe beat Hopkins (when he was 42 FFS), his fans went into overdrive when Pavlik didn't turn up to the next fight. Even though it was just about the worst performance from a champion in history (Pavlik barely threw a punch) the Hopkins victory suddenly became the slaying an elite in his prime. If Roy Jones Jr was an insignificant fight, what were his top three ATG status defining fights? Lacy, Kessler and Hopkins? Then we can start the real debate.
