was a fight between Ashira and Lacy in the amateurs?

Ashira Lashes Out At Lacy And Smith

10.11.06 - Former two-time world title challenger Evans “The African Warrior” Ashira (25-2, 13 KOs) has a few things he needs to get off his chest. The 1996 Olympian has a beef with former world super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy and Contender-star Ishe Smith, who he is calling out to step up or shut up. The following is an open letter from Ashira, who last year, just like Lacy, lost on points to Joe Calzaghe..

By Evans “The African Warrior” Ashira: I want to make something clear to the boxing-world: I am right here, and I hear too many people talk too much! They talk about how they are top-calibre fighters, but when it comes down to it I don’t see so much will to back it up.

First of all, I am referring to Jeff Lacy, who were busy talking trash about me and how small I was when I fought Calzaghe, and how Joe had an easy time with me. Lacy claimed he would show Calzaghe what a fight was all about, and then it turned out he couldn’t back all the talk up. He got himself dismissed like a Yo-Yo, dropped at the end of the fight, and was lucky to just get across the finish line.

Now, for Lacy’s comeback fight, someone from his team contacted me to hear if I wanted the fight. Of course I wanted that fight. Even if my last fight was at 154, I still wanted that fight bad, just to see what Lacy would do when he sees me across the ring, staring back at him. He would know he would have to back up all his talk one more time, but would he fail again?

I beat Quinton Smith, a guy who twice beat Lacy in the amateurs like he was his daddy, knocking him out once. Probably, Jeff thought twice and figured out a fight with me wouldn’t be so easy after all! A few weeks later I got a call that the fight wouldn’t happen after all. Maybe the big-talking Lacy found out it was time to walk the walk instead of talking the talk, because he wasn’t disrespecting me so much anymore…

I wish him good luck in his comeback, and can see he isn’t talking so much **** now. He knows better now, I guess!

I have also been listening to Ishe Smith talking so much trash about my boy Kassim Ouma, among other things saying that Kassim would not get the big fights because he is nothing. I know I don’t need to talk for Kassim, he can do that very well himself, but I am just sick and tired of having to read crap like this all the time.

Now, I don’t have a date for my next fight, and Smith has a date, my last fight was at 154, so how about Mr. Smith stepping up and taking my challenge? His best fights were on The Contender show over five rounds, so if he is looking for a real fight I am ready to take him on in his own backyard. All his people have to do is call my manager Jan Andersen and we could do it tomorrow. The maybe we can find out if he should keep talking, or shut up as well. Maybe then people can take him serious. Or, he could just punk out!
    Article posted on 11.11.2006

    ------------------------------

So Ashira gets credit for Quinton Smith beating Lacy in the amateurs .... using this type of bright logic I suppose anything is possible ... bloated 154 lber Ashira went the distance with Calzaghe at 168. Ashira got KO'd in two rounds by Masoe at 160. Masoe lost a decision to Felix Sturm at 160. So, Calzaghe and Sturm equals a draw at 168. lol Calzaghe <= Sturm.

Calzaghe went up in weight to fight B-hop. When B-hop fought Taylor he was struggling to make 160.

Drossy is a knob hater. He discredits the Eubank win but compare that to Wards win over Kessler.
So many people rate Wards win over Kessler as something special yet dont rate Calzaghes victory over Eubank. Why?

It was Wards 21st fight, Ward was 25
It was Calzaghes 23rd fight, Calzaghe was 25

    Ward won at home
    Calzaghe won away

When Ward beat Kessler, Kessler was 42-1-0
When Calzaghe beat Eubank, Eubank was 45-2-2

    Kessler was 31
    Eubank was 31

Kessler was 8-1 in world title fights
Eubank was 17-2-2 in world title fights

It was just under 3 years since Kessler beat a world rated opponent
It was just under 3 years since Eubank beat a world rated opponent

Kessler had only fought 3 completed rounds in 1 fight in a year before fighting Ward
Eubank had only fought 7 completed rounds in 2 fights in a year before fighting Calzaghe

    Kesslers only loss was clear
Eubanks 2 losses - first was very close (debateable) the second was a SD, to the same fighter.

    Kessler was favourite to win.
100 years of Boxing News claims Calzaghe was underdog, I have read Calzaghe was underdog but some posters claim he was betting favourite, though.
    http://www.talkboxing.co.uk/guides/b..._calzaghe.html
Notes Eubank was a strong favourite, but dont know where the site got its info.

Both Ward and Calzaghe had dominant performances with Calzaghe scoring 2 KDs.

After the loss Kessler beat undefeated WBC champ Froch
After the loss Eubank fought WBO CW champ Thompson and lost a close decision scoring a KD. Eubank fought a return with the bigger Thompson and lost on injury when ahead. Thompson was a CW and the only fighter to have beaten D Haye.

I have read how people on ESB say Eubank was shot so -
How far past prime was Eubank to you then?
Eubank had lost a close decision to Collins, that many thought he won, had a couple of tune ups and rematched Collins to a SD, had a couple of tune ups and lost clearly to underdog Calzaghe. After that loss Eubank went up to CW and challenged world champ Thompson losing a very close decision and then rematched Thompson losing on injury when ahead. Thats Thompson who years later past his best KOd D Haye.
Consider Eubank only had 2 losses to one fighter when he fought Calzaghe, the second by SD to a world champ and was 31 then went on to challenge a big CW flooring him etc, how past his prime do YOU think he was?
Remember Kessler is Wards big win and was the same age as Eubank here and had around the same amount of fights, so is Kessler shot as well, because Kessler has a serious eye problems and was an unwell double vision suffering fighter who has been inactive for a while now due to his injury

Remember when you make silly comments about losses was G Johnson considered past his prime when years ago after losing to Hopkins he went 7-9-2 including the Hopkins loss
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you work out how many fighters were top 10 rated and how many became top 10 rated after Calzaghe beat them he fought 22 SMW title fights and 15 were or became top 10 rated. I havent included Ferreyra who had been top 10 rated before fighting Calzaghe 15 out of 22 at SMW, Thats very good but even better when you note Calzaghes LHW career, because as a career total it becomes 17 out of 24. He fought 13 fighters who were rated in the magazine top 10 when he fought them. Reid, Sheika, Woodhall, Veit2, Brewer, Mitchell, Ashira, Manfredo, Lacy, Kessler, Jones, Hopkins, Bika. Eubank got rated for his loss so could be included to make 14.

Muahahaha what's this bailey 5, or is it 6 copy-paste loads of meaningless statistical bullshat from other threads? SMW threads from the past week or so, you'll find this post in pieces... what's even worse is that just about each segment went out a couple times in different threads.

The only integral part of this post is the first line. Or is it?

"Drossy is a knob hater. He discredits the Eubank win but compare that to Wards win over Kessler."

Where oh where did I even fukkin mention that in my first post? Or anywhere else for that matter?!?? And WTF is Drossy?.. what are you 12? I'm not Lance, I don't call you failey. Although some other peeps on here seemed to find that amusing. :D

Call me Failey if you want, but the real failure here Drossy, is your thread and how you havent been able to counter this post that is so repeated but still too tough for you to find an answer to :oops:.
I havent discredited the Eubank win, so you are telling lies :-(. I did compare it to Wards win over Kessler, and you can see the details for yourself. Seems to have left you stumped failey :yep.
I gave you accurate details and you cant debate them.

"I havent discredited the Eubank win, so you are telling lies" - What. The. Fukk.... are you sayin dude?!??????? That's your actual answer to "where did I compare Ward's win over Kessler to Calzaghe's over Eubank?".....?????

You know what, let's hold to that one for a second since you always, always need to have the last word. Well here, the action of 'reading' owns your pathetic "objective" statistical @ss...

D - "Both Joe Calzaghe & Andre Ward were 25 years old when they won their first belt, both at the expense of a past-prime SMW icon. The difference lies in the tactics."

B - "Drossy discredits the Eubank win but compare that to Wards win over Kessler."

D - "Where oh where did I even fukkin mention that in my first post? Or anywhere else for that matter?!??"

B - "I havent discredited the Eubank win, so you are telling lies. I did compare it to Wards win over Kessler, and you can see the details for yourself."

So in the first one we have... "Both Ward and Joe were 25 when they won their first belt" - questions? all in agreement? Cool. The guys they were fighting were both past their primes, and former SMW icons. Again, questions? Clear enough? "The difference lies in the tactics" - indeed. You're not attacking that one implying the two styles are similar, now are you??!?? I don't see anything wrong with that statement. So I "discredit the Eubank win" but you don't care to dismantle my original, long ass post? Nah, you'd rather cut & paste BS from the bottom of page 8 in an 8 page long thread no one cared enough about, but you. And then you go on saying something about me lying, re: YOU discrediting that win?!?

You're fukkin mental. Get a god damn grip.

Joe battered Eubank a couple times a round, with slaps. Interesting that the Sky Sports commentators were mentioning the fact Joe was recognized as an actual "Slapper"... I thought it started right from the Eubank fight on, guess not. Eubank was trying the uppercut a lot, something that served him well in the past. But well conditioned Joe was slick enough to master range on most, I say most of Eubank's power shots. However the few times Eubank connected with series of shots (most often when he was landing the lead right), I'd say a couple times between R3 and R5, and around R8-R9 (lots of clinching after that) if I recall correctly, Joe was long to pick the pace back up. The commentators were duly aware of the age, and career stage difference between the two... the young hungry lion with loud supporters in the crowd was unexpectedly taking on a walking legend at the weight who didn't have much left in the tank, basically. And of course, it showed in Eubank's agression level. Saw smiles from both sides, as Joe was watching wild rights extend close to his chin at good range and Eubank happened to rise from Joe's shoeshining sessions fresh, and ready to either jab the body or lead the right in (and probably clinch :D).

Ward outclassed Kessler who couldn't land half of the power shots 2005 Kessler would have. Dirty tactics however (and fukk that ref!!), where as JC vs CE was fairly clean bar a couple rabbit punches from both.

The difference lies in the tactics. And oh, oh, okaaaay, a unanimous vs technical decision for Capt Obvious.

(insert one of bailey's own, headbanger's 'pawned' post full of emoticons, here)

I could see what that BS looked like anyway...

It was Wards 21st fight, Ward was 25
It was Calzaghes 23rd fight, Calzaghe was 25
--yeah so far we're on the same page.

    Ward won at home
    Calzaghe won away
--bhaaaahahaha there, you lost me. Thousands of peeps from Wales in the crowd, the camera would show some of them during Joe's intro... how far did he have to travel from the fukkin hill he trains on? How far?? That's right. And we all know how Kessler's training went for that overseas fight as well.

When Ward beat Kessler, Kessler was 42-1-0
When Calzaghe beat Eubank, Eubank was 45-2-2
--yeah so fukkin what?!?? Eubank was past prime AND fatigued. Kessler was "unwell and suffering double vision"? Oh FAWK YA. How many delays in the S6? How many bailey? If you feel AWFULLY bad, well stay home and delay the fight. Guaranteed payday, and a title fight away from home so no shame in delaying it just the way Froch and Ward ended up doing. Kessler fought regardless of what was probably the beginning of it all... he said it got way worse after the fight (evidently).

    Kessler was 31
    Eubank was 31
--what's your point? Eubank fights Benn at age 24, Kessler fights Calzaghe at age 28. For Eubank that's 24 fukkin fights before Calzaghe. For Kessler that's merely 3 little fights, confidence boosters, fukkin KO's!!!!!!!! Nothing but fumes left in the tank for Eubank who's just a 'name' for Calzaghe's 22(21)-0-0 record to start with, and some newly found motivation (S6) for Kessler who thinks he's in for an easy night and on to "clearly win" :)lol:) the Super Six. Don't insult Kessler and say he couldn't have gotten Sauerland to move the date for this overseas fight to the right on the calendar, that'd be saying he's just a pawn in the grand scheme of things. He's not.

Kessler was 8-1 in world title fights
Eubank was 17-2-2 in world title fights
--Eubank had 4 fights in 1991, 5 fights in 1992, 3 fights in 1993 and 6 fukkin fights in 1994. Champ throughout, everyone was giving him all they had. Kessler as a champ, well today's fighters altogether anyway, fights twice, tops 3 times a year. Sometimes once. Applies to all top 10 fighters at SMW. Unfair comparison, again you're making the numbers sing your songs.

It was just under 3 years since Kessler beat a world rated opponent
It was just under 3 years since Eubank beat a world rated opponent
--Kessler beat undefeated Andrade 2 years 8 months before facing Ward, and undefeated Sartison 1 year 5 months before the Ward fight. Eubank beat Wharton 2 years 10 months before Calzaghe, and only 10 months after Benn beat him. Kessler's fire ended with Calzaghe 2 years before Ward (he got demolished both physically and mentally), where as Eubank's fire ended with Collins II for which he actually took part in an eliminator. The short notice fight for the vacant belt against Calzaghe was primarily an offer out of respect, to a former title holder and everyone knew would draw well against young Joe who was mostly unknown at the world level at the time, and who found the perfect stepping stone. Or should I say, 'simply the best' one. :D

Kessler had only fought 3 completed rounds in 1 fight in a year before fighting Ward
Eubank had only fought 7 completed rounds in 2 fights in a year before fighting Calzaghe
--A bit sub par for Kessler, nothing alarming given the fact he had a nice KO12 over undefeated top 15 Sartison and layed low for a bit given how he lost the titles in the first place. For Eubank, here's a quote from post #1 in this thread...
"On the other hand, years-past-prime Eubank was coming off two excellent wins; one was a KO5 over 35-8-4 Luis Dionisio Barrera (who weighed 161 vs Eubank's 177) at an "indoor arena" in Cairo, and the other was a KO4 over 13-2 Camilo Alarcon -Eubank ended his short career- at a tennis club in Dubai. Eubank knew he was a stepping stone for Calzaghe, with this kind of short notice and known condition / recent opposition."

    Kesslers only loss was clear
Eubanks 2 losses - first was very close (debateable) the second was a SD, to the same fighter.
--Kessler, in his prime, got dominated by a better fighter who's style definitely overwhelmed him. LOL the quick & powerful cat who beat Benn in 1990 would have taken Joe to a hard fought SD or finished him under 10. That half-second Eubank was missing on a lot of power punches he threw against Calzaghe is the difference with what 1990 Eubank could have connected with.

    Kessler was favourite to win.
100 years of Boxing News claims Calzaghe was underdog, I have read Calzaghe was underdog but some posters claim he was betting favourite, though.
    This content is protected

Notes Eubank was a strong favourite, but dont know where the site got its info.
--Calzaghe WAS the betting favourite. Part 1 of 4 on youtube. Weird the bookies didn't forward the memo.

Both Ward and Calzaghe had dominant performances with Calzaghe scoring 2 KDs.
--Did not expect Ward to put down tough Kessler. And the first KD vs Eubank was merely a wake up call, Eubank was awkwardely transferring weight to his back foot and Calzaghe caught him with a flash left... he got straight back up and started yapping away, the ego got stung.

Could probably go on, this is fun... - but it's dinner time. See ya. :hi:

Wow. "I havent discredited the Eubank win, so you are telling lies" - your logic was flawed, end of. How is you not discrediting the Eubank win (and why the fukk would you, I never implied that you deluded tool) a reason for..... me telling lies?!??? Read post #20 again, there's something in there that prompted you to say that and you can't say what.

What you quoted there is the end of my first post. You started with "Drossy is a knob hater. He discredits the Eubank win but compare that to Wards win over Kessler." - so I say both Eubank and Kessler were past prime, former SMW icons, and explained later how Eubank had very little left in the tank and how Kessler, because of differences in age vs schedule (put the blame on eras, boxing's popularity level, whatever), was indeed a lesser fighter than he was before Calzaghe but that he wasn't as worn down by ring wars as Eubank was... allowing him to be competitive for years to come, and that's exactly what he's doing.

    WTF

Again, you fail to comprehend. Eubank is 24 and meets the elite, Benn. 24 fights pass, mostly wars for his SMW title. Kessler is 28 and meets the elite, Calzaghe. Yes fukk off with Siaca and Beyer, the only 'elite' thing they ever had was a piece of hardware. That's 3 fights, not 24, before he faces Ward. Lots left in the tank. Not all fighters start getting affected physically/mentally at the same stage in their careers therefore not at the same age, you should know that. But you obviously don't.

bailey didn't discredit the Eubank victory = drozzy is telling lies

You make a lot of sense. A lot. :patsch

And they said Joe needed a name, someone who was recognized on the world scene, on his resume. Et voilĂ . "Can Eubank do it?" they asked, not "Can Joe outclass fatigued and slow Eubank?".

...says an individual who cannot accept defeat. You can't debate the facts I bring to the table. :D

Wow, what a load of bullshaaaaaaaaaat. Calzaghe had half the crowd behind him and was driving distance away from home. Gimme a fukkin break you deluded loser.

Hahahahaha all you could do is paste the portion of your regurgitated post I didn't have time to answer yesterday!!!!!

The reality is, you fail to understand how Eubank could have been shot before Calzaghe given the wars and the style matchups he went through, especially with Collins saying he had lost an edge when he fought him, and how Kessler was yes past his peak physically and mentally due to the beating he took in '07, but still fresh if you consider the big picture in terms of career length and level of opposition. As well, for Eubank it was an opportunity, a payday he was offered - take it or leave it. Kessler however had the right to stand up and say his eyes weren't 100% as you keep mentioning, ultimately delaying the fight the way Froch and Ward did. Kessler also underestimated relatively unknown Ward, where as Eubank knew he was up against the young lion next door who had been scouted as betting favourite. Kessler was favourite to win the S6.

Carl Thompson? For a blown up SMW counter-puncher, why not?!? :thumbsup

Again, Eubank faced world class opposition for 7 years before Calzaghe, was involved in very tough fights and got worn down losing speed in the process. Kessler started facing world class opposition in '07 with undefeated Andrade and obviously Calzaghe, before then his W's were mostly one-sided TKO's in which he wasn't absorbing a lot of damage. Kessler lost an edge after Calzaghe, but was still fresh enough for Ward and considered less shot than Eubank.

14 of which are covered in the first post here, mostly as pieces of pure shat. But you didn't wanna go there.

Good thing he had been in training. He was huffin and puffin by the 9th round. Still doesn't give him plenty of time to know what's up with Calzaghe's style and come up with a game plan, where as Joe had been ramping up to the fight of his life at the time... and had cared for Eubank as a potential opponent way more than Eubank did towards him.

Same BS as your other post, to which I replied (unanswered):

Sartison was top 15, ranked by the alphabet bodies or not, not top 10 like you were implying I said. And in '08 at SMW, that's being conservative.

12-0-4 66 42 years 9922 6 titles 889 clearly 4490384 is your kind of bullshat and means even less. :deal

Come to think of it, the Sky Sports commentators mention it in the first two mins of the first clip. Betting favourite for a reason, and in what you call an away fight LOL!!

So? So you were implying an edge to Calzaghe with those 2 KD's vs Ward's win... past prime and fatigued counter-puncher who's fairly static vs a young volume slapper with 22(21) on his record - recipe for sparks, and Eubank wasn't even rocked in the first KD.

    So yes...

Ward beating 2009 Kessler who had lost the edge but still had good physical resilience

made more of a statement than

Calzaghe beating 1997 Eubank, who was handed a short notice world level opportunity after losing twice to the guy he replaced, and who didn't have the physical resilience to go 12 good rounds countering Joe like he could have in 1990-92.

    :lol::patsch
