Calzaghe's legacy dependant on Kessler success in the tournament?

Many fans are quick to critisize Calzaghe's resume often saying that some of his best wins were mostly against fighters who were past it. Me personally I think that's unfair to paint his resume with one brush and it's probably unfair on my part to ask this question because Calzaghe retired with a 46-0 record with absolutely no robberies involved.

Kessler was the prime/elite fighter that Joe has beaten and I would imagine that because Lacy fell apart so badly after his loss to Calzaghe that many don't take Joe resume serious enough. If Kessler were to sweep this upcoming 168 pound tournament, I would imagine that Calzaghe would finally silence his critics who are quick to critisize his very good resume. I would imagine that Joe fans deep down also want Kessler to win and quite frankly I don't blame them.

So what's everyones thoughts on this matter?

    Not dependant, no.

His legacy is already secured for any person who doesn't have a stick up their ass, as you can see by casual boxing fans rating him quite highly as well as certain things like him being rated above most LHW boxers in the recent FN4. His victories in the 90s against guys like Reid, Woodhall, Sheika, Mitchell and co are all heavily underrated in my view.

The fact that he did what near no one else has done recently and take all 4 belts without ever losing is also something that to my view, has not been done since the days of one title belt.

Kessler can solidify Joe's legacy with his career, if he goes through as people expect and tears the tournament apart, then it makes Joe look better.

But in my view, Joe beating Hopkins who then destroyed Pavlik said all it needed to say. Joe will ALWAYS have his critics, the same as RJJ did - but it's only because people hate seeing guys who don't need to be in wars to win their fights.

Kessler is everything for Calzaghe. Period. That's how Joe wanted it.

Hey, PP, you know I don't have a problem with you - but what's with the White fighters, bud? I'd love to see you and Farmboxer's top ten and ATG lists. :rofl You know that you're constantly preaching to OBJECTIVE boxing observers with this stuff all the time right?? EVERY time.

the people who don't rate calzaghe now wont rate him no matter what kessler does, even those who said kessler was going to expose calzaghe.

Kessler's success will definately mean alot to Calzaghe's legacy.

i believe that Kessler's legacy will even surpass Calzaghe's. The Ward fight will tell alot actually

It's solely cause PBF, Mosley and Hopkins haven't been active - there are always threads on Calzaghe and Klitschko, hence you see me in those.

You'll also see me in Cotto threads, Pac threads, etc - pure fan of boxing.

    Top 10 Right Now?

    1. PBF
    2. Pac
    3. JMM
    4. Sugar Shane
    5. B-Hop
    6. Cotto
    7. Donaire
    8. Vazquez
    9. Marquez
    10. Dawson

Top 10 all time? I really don't get into all time rankings, mostly because my view is that boxers get better as the years go on and even if it seems like we're in a talent poor division, I'd still take the Klitschko's on their day H2H over anyone with the exception of Lewis - too big, too skilled and too capable at using their size.

this is thing with joe, he is a hall of famer, but for me, no where near all-time great.....at his peak the SMW division was pretty shitty.....outside of a few fighters....Jones, Jr. IMO had a better reign competition wise then Joe...

his best win is kessler, and if kessler fumbles the ball, or just looks somewhat flat for the next year or so, it will not be good for ole' joe's legacy.....

his "hall of fame wins" are kessler, 43 year-old hopkins, ancient dinosaur roy jones, jr....a semi-shot eubank who had been in wars....and jeff lacy, who is a overhyped nobody, that most have concluded to be true.....

kessler's future means a great deal to calzaghe's legacy...

but Joe thinks the 46-0 trumps everything.....it doesn't in these days where promotional spin dictates match-up's and records....

Ofcourse Kessler's success will be important to Calzaghe's legacy. However, it will not be everything. If Kessler loses all three fights, Calzaghe's legacy will pretty much stay as it is. IF Kessler wins all three fights Calzaghe's legacy will go up a bit, but Joe is evaluated on his entire carreer, not on one opponent.

Honestly, you aren't bad at all about that. It seems like you lean toward Whitey a bit here and there, but for the most part I was completely kidding. You're actually alot more objective than people sometimes give you credit for, IMO.
