In your mind, what will you think of Calzaghe's resume if Kessler were to lose tonight?

I personally believe Kessler will NOT lose tonight, I can see some losing scenarios for Kessler happening but I doubt it.. I would be pretty surprised to see him lose.

BUT--- If he does lose, what then does that mean for Calzaghe?

I consider Kessler his only convincing victory over another elite fighter in his prime, but if Kessler were to lose to Ward, then I would have to rethink my consideration of Kessler as an elite fighter. Which would greatly diminish Joe's already suspect resume.

Shame really, Joe has so much talent and such a unique winning style.... wish I could have seen him against better opposition during his prime.

    Thoughts?

    :patschdeary me.

Calzaghe beat Kess when he was unbeaten to Unify the SMW division.

Its a different time for Kess now.

I dont get it tbh. You expecting Kessler to win every fight and only then is it a top top win for Calzaghe?

Remember styles make fights(as well as other things).Any fighter can lose on a given night vs the right opponent style etc.

Saying that id give big credit to Ward if he wins and imo would be a great achievement to become champ vs a guy like kessler.

    :lol::rofl:patsch

How long ago was the Calzaghe-Kessler fight? Over 2 years ago?

If Kessler gets KOed in 10 seconds it won't have anything to do with Calzaghe's legacy. Do you even watch Boxing?

When Kessler loses to Ward tonight, it will no affect Calzaghe's legacy in any way, shape, or form.

you really think that? It's going to be hard for me to think of Joe's resume in the same light..

Calzaghe proved to me his greatness vs Kessler ( I hold Kessler in pretty high regard)

so if Kessler were to lose tonight to someone who I think he should NOT lose to, I think it may change my thoughts on the quality of the win Joe had.. I mean 2 Years may seem like a long time, but Kessler definitely is not going to be much different than he was 2 years ago... if anything, he is better.. learning from his only loss

really though, I don't see Kessler losing tonight

The key to Calzaghe's legacy is Kessler's success.

If Kessler accomplished enough to get him into the top 100 ATG it will be very hard to argue of putting him ahead of Calzaghe since JC beat him in his prime.

However Kessler's demise doesnt bring Calzaghe down either, but it keeps him vulnerable of barely being an atg at around 90-100.

Calzaghe's stock cant go down with a Kessler loss, but it can rise up with Kessler success.

I think it does, within reason of course.

I'm a great believer in form, in boxing.

A lot of British fighters build their records being former champs at various levels, and ''never been stopped'' guys.

If one of those former champs that Hatton/Calzaghe beat handily, goes on to win the title again, and be dominant, then great, if they are on a run of stoppage losses..... and have another run of stoppage losses after that, the win isn't all that great.

Given that the fight was two years ago, and Kessler has won all his subsequent fights by stoppage, and not lost a round..... you can't take much from Calzaghe should Mikkel lose tonight.

    And I hate Calzaghe

Why? Ward-Kessler has NOTHING to do with Calzaghe.

He proved his greatness to me when he faced Hopkins.

First of all, sounds like you're selling Ward short. I think Ward will win, and when he does, that will not make me think any less of Calzaghe. Likewise, if Kessler wins, I will not think any more of Calzaghe.

How Ward and Calzaghe match up has NOTHING to do with Calzaghe.

So if Kessler loses, you will view Calzaghe in a less favorable light? What if Ward beat Kessler and then goes on to win the entire tournament? Would you still feel the same way?

Your line of reasoning is silly if you ask me.

So are some of you actually arguing that the fact that Jeff Lacy turned out to be mediocre is something that takes away from Calzaghe's victory over him?

    I'm not seeing it.

At the time they fought, Lacy was viewed as the best/one of the best super middles by many.
