Yes, but look at the dire state of the opponents.

He's fought three times since losing to Calzague.... fights against the likes of Perdomo?!

well, I think we disagree on some fundamental things...

First off I don't think you can win fights by simply throwing pitter patter that is blocked or missed... you win fights by effective landed punches... So I gave Hopkins the victory against Joe... a Draw at best due to inactivity by Hopkins in the later rounds. But I can see why the judges gave it to Joe... Joe's ability to keep Hopkins from punching was impressive...

If Ward proves to be great, then I will bite my tongue.... but I view Kessler as an Elite and I view Ward as green and unproven. I see flaws in Ward that Kessler will exploit.

It's fair to say that If Kessler wins the Tourney and goes on to be an ATG that Calzaghe's legacy would be seen as greater than it is now.... so then it's also fair to say that if Kessler goes on to be a bust that Calzaghe's legacy will be diminished slightly as well..

you don't see this logic? No wonder you supported Palin

    doesnt mean anything.....
thats like saying joes win over lacy meant nothing
im not cheerleader for kessler or joe, but joe feasted on **** for a long time....kessler was unproven at the time and he schooled him. kessler has fouhgt even worse comp than joe , but the only 2 names in kesslers 10 years as a pro that the outcome was decided before the bell rang was andrade (undefeated and shut him out) Joe C (undefeated and lost decisively) maybe for a stretch you can throw in Mundine and Beyer...but thats not saying much.
Joes career will be average no matter what happens tonight, win or lose for Kessler. But Kessler aint winning.

No the key to Calzaghe's legacy is being the best in a division for a decade, beating everyone he ever faced and beating a top 3 p4p guy.

But I agree, should Kessler go on to great things it would look good for Joe, but I dont think it would ever move him much at all.

    Exactly.

That's one of the most satisfying consequences of the Ward win tonight...that Calzaghe's bull**** legacy is going to be exposed...

It's almost as satisfying as knowing 1 million, blind, nationalistic, garbage fans will be DEVASTATED.

Kessler is hugely important to Calzaghe's legacy. We know this. Mikkel does well; it's great for Joe. Mikkel gets taken out by the next moderately world class opponent he gets in with, maybe someone like Ward (who is still relatively green); it's a massive indictment on Kessler, and reflexively Joe Calzaghe. Personally, I'm pulling for Kessler and Calzaghe. If Ward prevails, good on him, but he really isn't supposed to win this fight. Andre Ward is still my pick however.

Nah, You probably meant beating the best in the WBO's rankings at the division cause he certainly didnt beat nor fight the division's best in the last decade.

And everyone knows Calzaghe's defining win is Kessler, not Hopkins. Kessler is the key to Calzaghe's legacy even JC knows this.

Ever wonder why he was insistent of managing Kessler last year?

I think it's unfair to tie Calzaghe's legacy to Kessler. Super MW was a subpar division when Calzaghe was there. It's not his fault the guys there weren't good enough to share the ring with him. He still won all the major belts there as well as the ring belt. I give him huge props for the Hopkins win as well(even though he didn't look good in that fight). Kessler is a good fighter. That was a reallly good win for Calzahge. What happens tonight won't change that, unless of course Kessler gets embarrassed.

What you said is true but his opponents are not really top tier SMWs. So it's still difficult to gauge Kessler's real ability based on his last 3 fights. Ward will be a better barometer of how good he really is.

A lot of people agree with you on this, and for the life of me I will never understand it.

Joe's win against Hopkins was MUCH more impressive than his win against Kessler.

That was the fight where Joe proved his greatness.

If Kessler was to lose tonight it would have no bearing at all on Calzaghe's career.

They fought each other, 2 years ago, to unify the super middleweight division - How higher could Calzaghe have gone than to go into battle against the guy who held the other world titles in his division??

Calzaghe and Kessler were the top guys at SMW when they fought. Calzaghe won, convincingly. There was nothing left for him to do in that division after that.

What happens if Kessler loses tonight and then KO's Froch and Abraham in his next two fights??

Have this discussion again at the end of the tournament.

His performance vs Lacy and Kessler were better, but the Hopkins win is more important by miles.

When Froch beats Kessler then it will be exposed
