Going over in my head now since Calzaghe retired the main fighters on his resume are getting beat easily, Lacy got schooled again by Jones (+Taylor), Jones then got took out in a round by a novice Danny Green Kessler got took to school by a relitivly green Ward Even Eubank lost his following two fights after Calzaghe and retired So am i right in sayin if B-Hop looses againt Green then Calzaghes legacy isnt as good as any of us thought? do you reckon he should come out of retirement and fight the winner of the super 6? or Dawson?
I do think joe should come out and fight the super 6 winner then carry on dancing, if it is Froch then that bout would be huge.
That's like saying Hopkins' legacy took a hit because Taylor lost to Pavlik, Froch and Abraham. Boxing doesn't work like that.
-jones losing to green ****ed up his own career, not calzaghe's -kessler hasn't been the same since calzaghe beat him, as was lacy (same problem cotto and hatton had after losing there 1st fights -after calzaghe, hopkins moves onto to school undisputed middleweight king. joes legacy is as strong as it has ever been
:good A good point, well put! Though I must be honest and say that whilst Joe is obviously a 168 ATG and imo the best super-middleweight champion ever he is not imo a p4p ATG, which is what he was aiming for! He's a very egotistical man and his "Protection" of his "0" meant he did not fight the best guys available .And i'm referring to middleweights who would have moved up to fight him or the 175 fighters he could have moved up to fight (B-Hop notwithstanding).Joe was so damn frustrating because, I truly believe that we never saw the best of him!! He could have took several more far more seroius opponents and maybe beat them all, or perhaps only lost to one or so. Let's be fair, retiring with a couple of losses does not do your legacy too much harm if you've spent almost your entire career fighting against the best, which Joe did not do. If he does return he proves my point. He believed the "0" was sufficient to guarantee true ATG status and now that he realises it is not, he may return.
Can you specify when you will all stop remembering so the rest of us can look forward to being able to come on this messageboard without having to wade through pointless dumbass threads like this one?
:deal i like Calzaghe i just find myself frustrated with how his carrer turned out considering the talent he has I agree with almost evrithing you said there
You could just read one of the many pre-existing threads and find plenty of opinions, none of which will be any different to anything that will be posted in this one....
Nah nah, After calzaghe beat hopkins he had 1 of his best performances against pavlik, jones jr also bounced back with good victorys over lacys and sheika, The only legacys that are fading are jones jr and hopkins Tug on dese ballz:rasta
Which isn't strong enough for true ATG status and that was what Joe aimed for!! And i'm glad you mentioned Hopkins schooling Pavlik, because that fight proves my point!! Pavlik wanted Calzaghe, at 168. But Joe "Swerved" that fight to take the **** out of a ruined RJJ!!! Joe could have and should have took the Pavlik fight and I believe that he would have beat Kelly in a fight that would have been relevant and looked great on his resume. But hang on, Kelly was undefeated at the time and had beaten Taylor twice, so instead Joe fought the way past prime guy who had been ko'd in 3 of his last 4 fights!!! Those sort of decisions are why fighters like Hopkins will always be ranked considerably higher than Calzaghe!! As for Kessler and Lacey "Never being the same" following their defeats to Joe, it could just be that neither were quite as good as the British media would have us believe!! Believe it or not mate i'm a Joe Calzaghe fan!! But the guy and his career were so ****ing frustrating. He had the opportunities to erase all doubt as to his status and he failed to do so! I for one believe that he had the ability to achieve true ATG staus. Now I doubt he ever will, which is due entirely to his egotistical nature and not a lack of talent.
