Joe's approach to conditioning saved him last night. He beat Nard because he got stronger down the stretch due to his excellent endurace while Nard faded, despite all his Mackie Shilstone high tech training.
Nice job bringing up this topic yet again for no good reason. Joe winning last night did not prove a thing.
Man,you guys have too many excuses. This fight came down to conditioning. Hopkins has more experience, skill and dimensions than joe. All the pseudo scientific stuff and weights from the dream team including mackie shilstone still failed in basic conditioning, while calazaghe excelled in stamina without touching a weight.,and having a much less recognised old school trainer.... Smell the cofee boys.....
Exactly! Calzaghe's fitness and workrate made the difference. His endurance never faltered and his conditioning enabled him to come back strong in the first round, after being knocked down. His legs were strong under him, when he got up. On HBO's preview show, the training approaches could not have been more different. I loved the spartan, classic approach employed by Calzaghe. Running on the hilly roads and working out in the most basic, deviod of fancy equipment gym. I wonder how much Nard paid Shilstone and his team of trainers for all the high tech stuff?
but hopkins was never the one to throw 1000's of punches through a 12 round fight. if calzaghe had followed hopkins' conditioning routine would he have lost?
Possibly. He may have gassed. I spent many years boxing and still train. I have also been a keen observer of the sport for 30 plus years. In my view, there is no real substitute for the sort of training Joe does and the mental and physical advantages created. I firmly believe all his running (hills and otherwise) was a key contributor in his ability to get up from the knockdown and have his legs under him for the balance of the fight.
yes bcause it would have side tracked him from his old schhool training, old school rules:happy :happy
:rofl :rofl yeah sure! but hopkins also ran 5 miles, sparred 15 rounds, hit the bags, mitts, jumped rope, done floor work for this fight.
I don't get why this argument is still going. Weights, if used correctly, can greatly improve conditioning. Thats a simple fact. Joe found a training method that obviously works for him, but you can't say his way is the best and only way. If you all want to be ignorant and say boxers shouldn't use weights under any circumstances that's fine. I'll repeat it yet again - weights will make you a better ATHLETE not a better boxer.
Why would you doubt someone outlining their background. I have no reason to lie. You must have some serious issues regarding your confidence and self esteem.
