I haven't witnessed that much bitchslappin' since Janice McCracken threw down with my neighbor Alice Ayer in third grade. Is Joe Calzaghe's punching style really due to injury (or the concern for reinjury), or is this just some friendly smoke floated by the partisans. Kidding aside, Calzaghe rarely seemed to put any significant power behind his punches and appears content landing a high volume of slapping, busy, quirkily defensive, gotta reach my quota type punches. When he lands these flurries he does nonetheless score and wins rounds, so I guess it's working for him (especially against opponents reluctant to throw a high volume of punches; for example, boxers over the age of forty). I just don't recall him slapping as much in the Lacy or Kessler fights.
Lacy and Kessler were much more agressive meaning joe had more opportunities to land cleaner shots. It was hard for Joe to find Hopkins as he was very defensive and tied up a lot in the fight when there was a chance for shots. His hands are fragile so he changed his punches, he was by no means a heavy hitter back in the day but its like night and day now.
