yea but many acclaimed him a bit too early as a true contender because of the way he ****ED PEOPLE UP! :bbb

he was a bum...but a bum that rocked most people with ONE good punch...and since he's never really fought a slick fighter or had much ring experience (the guy was 22-0 when he fought Calzaghe)...he wasn't really tested or ready in my opinion for a guy like Calzaghe (a guy who magically was 40-0 and had somehow snuck by without recognition :huh )

    40-0 and BARELY fighting Lacy...

    Very true.

    And not just him.

Consider the following two groups of boxers.

    Group 1
    Pituala
    Harris
    Lazcano
    Collazo
    Mora
    Froch
    Henry

    Group 2
    Pacman
    Cotto
    Floyd
    Margarito
    Oscar
    Taylor
    Calzaghe

What do you notice about group 1 and group 2 ?

Group 1 members don't have hordes of fanatics (origin of the word 'fan' ) on here but neither do they inspire hordes of haters.

Group 2 members have lots of BOTH.

Group 2 members are quite a lot better on the whole than those of group 1.

    Conclusion:

The better a boxer becomes and the more success he has, the more fans he picks up (pretty obvious and expected), but also, the more haters he appears to attract (less obvious and less expected).

When Miranda was on the rise, lots of fans and lots of haters.

A couple of notable losses later, he's dropped significantly off the radar.

    So, why all the hate.

The answer would appear to be that old cliche:

    It goes with the territory.

well group one also doesnt have much attention or recognition for people to come and analyze (hating) them as boxers...

but i wouldnt totally say that Group 2 has a serious following of haters...

    i mean out of
    Pacman
    Cotto
    Floyd
    Margarito
    Oscar
    Taylor
    Calzaghe

the only ones with a TRUE haterbase is

    Floyd (didnt face serious opposition)
    Oscar (because he's a trans-gender homo)
    Calzaghe (didnt face SERIOUS opposition)

you'll have haters with every boxer...but a SERIOUS haterbase is hard to come by...and those above mentioned ARE INCREDIBLY SUCCESSFUL and in the minds of many...dont deserve the spotlight when they handpick opponents and pamper theyre careers...

boxing is a gladiator sport...and unless you're fearless and face anyone and everyone...you're a coward and a waste of talent...which is why they have a haterbase...because in their eyes...theyre cowards and hug and hold onto that "0" on their record (in speaking of Floyd and Calzaghe)

You haven't been on here long enought to know, I suppose, but every one of the boxers in group 2 have inspired a serious dose of hate from a good cohort of haters. I forgot to put both Klits in there too.

Taylor had a tremendous hater-base, as you term it, after his close bouts with Bernard. It's calmed down a bit now that he's taken a couple of beatings himself.

    Success increases hate.

    Decline decreases hate.

Just seems to be a general rule of thumb.

    Was perceived to be, yes.

This is mostly an American board (over 90 %).

He wasn't much in any group pre-Lacy as he was hardly noticed at all.

thats gotta be unusual, calzaghe had already been a reigning champ for what, like seven or eight years before facing lacy...

    True.

But like I said, not American.

    Hadn't fought in America.

No ( or nearly no) US fanbase.

So he went either un-noticed or derided.

Still gets derision despite a reign that's comparable in length, defences and opposition to Bernard's middlewt reign.

    Sven Ottke ?

not many hater or fans on here.

    Wasn't noticed.

    Never fought outside of Germany.

Go back to watching WWE you ****ing child. Hopkins is shot now? What happened with Pavlik then, a ****ing imposter in a Hopkins costume?

And if you think Eubank, Reid (prime), Woodhall, Mitchell et al are bums then you are either 14, ******ed or both.

Sven Ottke without the dodgy hometown decisions.

    Pre-Lacy, Calzaghe's resume was SHOCKING.
