Calzaghe's resume is very underated

Can you break down the rounds as I have never been able to see this. Close but clear win for Joe (worth noting back then I was a Reid fan).

 

Eubank was past it, took the fight at short notice and was weight drained, although for a young up and coming fighter it wasn't a bad win, but don't pretend it was great.

Robin Reid was nothing special, after giving Joe a run for his money he got his head boxed off by Silvio Branco.

Woodhall was not World class, in his fight with Homes he got horribly outclassed and stopped and only won a title by moving up the weak SMW division. The Calzaghe fight was also his last ever, it was just a retirement pay day, he just turned up for the check.

Mario Veit was a total joke, he was unbeaten by fighting 4, 6 and 8 rounders against the lowest level bums the SMW division had to offer. The first Calzaghe fight was his very first scheduled 12 rounder

Omar Sheika was fringe contender in America, nothing special, he just got advertised as some big name American and your usual Sun reading cretins went along with it.

Byron Mitchell, again nothing special, Sven Ottke's left overs. Also dropped Calzaghe and the ref stopped it early.

Kabary Salem was a total nobody, got stopped by green Bute and then retired after the Calzaghe fight.

Mario Veit rematch, another joke of a fight and got Joe booted off SkySports, they'd finally had enough

Jeff Lacy, nice win, good performance.

Sakio Bika, decent win but nothing special.

Kessler, good win and Joe's only win over a prime World level fighter.

Hopkins, highly debatable desicion, a fight that showed why Joe stayed at home while guys like Jones and Hopkins were prime.

You Calzaghe fans should just stick to reading The Sun and believing what uncle Frank tells you in his horrendous articles.

 

calzaghe is probably in the top 5 superweights of all time imo. Had he been a few years older I think he would of had no problems in beating the likes of Collins, toney, a prime eubank and benn and I am the biggest nigel benn fan. People will say he beat nobody but the fact is many fighters ducked joe. He was a nightmare for any opponent. A prime Roy jones is the only person I can think that might of beaten him. He was just to quick and to good. As for froch and ward, today's current champs I think calzaghe would of made them both look average!

Whether Calzaghe's resume is underrated or overrated depends on what standard you are measuring him against.

If you are suggesting his resume stacks up against p4p ATGs you are clearly wrong, and quite possibly ******ed.

If you suggest he isn't on the shortlist for greatest SMW ever, and one of the top 10 post war British fighters, I think you are definitely selling him short.

By SMW and British standards it is a very strong resume, with bonus points for dominance. By ATG standards it is very thin on the ground, and probably not on a par with he could have achieved with the right fights earlier in his career.

 

Calzaghe beats Froch easy.

 

Basically he was a quality fighter wasted some parts of his career but was a match for anyone with his skillset and has a number of very good wins. The pick being Bhop, Kessler, Lacy

 

There is no doubting he had a very impressive career.

However......when people start saying GOAT then you will have to expect the judging criteria to increase, therefore thats why people are picking holes in his CV

 

zulander - the first Calzaghe fight was Veits first ever scheduled 12 rounder, Veit beat Salem over 12 rounds by SD (in one of the worst fights I've ever seen) prior to the second Calzaghe fight. Veit was a joke and the rematch such a laughable farce that it got Joe kicked off Sky Sports.

The fact Veit even gets brought up as one of Calzaghe's best wins shows how weak his resume is.
