In any event, his performance was supreme, and nobody had handled Miranda with such ease...not Pavlik, not Abraham.
Having watched Kessler over the years, he has been on the slide recently. Last night he looked very bad. Could he have taken Ward at his best? There certainly were opportunities to land telling shots when Ward starting coming in.
Well, in my book Calzaghe did not beat Hopkins, so yeah, Kessler is his best win. Yeah, he was the favourite to win the tourney but that does not mean he is great.
Stieglitz, Tsypko. Both better than anybody Miranda ever beat at smw. Andrade would beat Miranda. Stop exagerating this. It was a very good win of Ward but that does not make him an automatic favourite of the tourney, not the number one smw and not a great fighter. He has still a lot to prove.
After going life and death with Miranda a few years prior, Abraham was able to change up. Nobody handled him like Ward did though, handing him a thorough boxing lesson over the 12 round distance, barely taking so much as a shot himself. What are we arguing here? Kessler was touted as being a great fighter, there's no disputing that, and those claims have found to be wanting, to put it mildly. Ward is the goods, nobody handed out a boxing lesson to either Miranda or Kessler until Ward came onto the scene, who hasn't lost a fight since he was a little boy. Expect big things to come from this man.
...Ward just outclassed the favorite for the tournament, how can Ward not be a front runner for the championship? He just beat the man...so now he is indeed, the man.
I liked to watch Calzaghe fight but his record isnt fooling anyone. To me he made his name beating bums and over-the-hill fighters. I'd have more respect if he'd taken more risks in his career and lost a couple of fights. Sadly I dont think he took a risk his whole career barring perhaps Lacy who turned out to be pretty awful. Definitely not ATG material and a wasted British talent. :-(
:good Exactly. Joe was infatuated with the idea of retiring undefeated, but he had his priorities totally ****ed up.
Fanboy .... Abraham was beating Miranda unil that freak accident in the first fight and even then with gallons of blood loss and a double broken jaw he nearly knocked Miranda out and beat him. Kessler was never great. A very good fighter, which he still is, and the number one contender for he smw crown but not great. Ward is good, I never said something different. But I won't start joining the hype like you do. That's like over there in the general forum. Everything get's so exagerated.
Sure he one of the favourites. One of, not THE. And he did not beat the man because Kessler never was the man. Get your head out of the clouds and you feet back to the ground, dreamer.
A fan boy of Andre Ward. **** off to the General if you're going to start that campaign. Ward is getting credit for what he achieved, which was putting on a boxing clinic in front of his hometown fans against who the fans were calling the best Super Middleweight in the world. He did a similar job to Miranda, who has only ever lost to the very best in his division, and Ward has now established himself as one of the leading talents in the sport. I haven't said he's a future ATG, he's going to do this..or he's going to do that, he's getting credit for what's achieved, which is a hell of a lot more than many expected.
:huh Abraham handled him with far more ease than Ward did. Minus the broken bone, Abraham smashed him to bits early doors.
Has anbody ever actualy claimed that Kessler weas a great fighter outside of a few die hards on the general forum? Now I do think that Calzaghe was a great fighter and not because I thought that Kessler was some embryonic all time great. It is just a matter of his raw career statistics. Held every version of the supermiddleweight title. Ring magazine champion in two weight classes. 20 title defences is impresive even against weak opposition. Undefeated despite being in 20+ title fights.
