Again. Make a poll about if Johnson got robbed against Oke and then watch the fight. Polls on internet boards are nothing but fun games. Yeah, this is true. I never denied it. What I do deny is you acting as if Ward just had beaten a Prime SRR. Yeah, he just beat the supposed best smw, yeah he is now one of the favouries to win the tourney but no he is not automatically great.
I never claimed Ward had established himself as a great. I said he has now established himself as a leading talent, and that with his potential, he can go on to bigger and better things. I was the first person in this bloody thread to freely admit that Kessler is not even a great fighter, let alone the second coming of Sugar Ray Robinson. All to often we have preconceived notions about how a fight is going to go, and even though all of them are smashed to bits, we still can't find time to give some credit to where it belongs. Ward was fabulous, and much like I acknowledged the greatness of Pacquiao after Saturday night, I'm acknowledging that Ward is a supreme talent. "talent".
Shot fighters have always looked impressive against other shot fighters. Tyson could still blow away dross in a minute or two when he was light years past his prime. That ****ing pull the trigger comment again!! :fire So Jones can still move his arms quickly - wow. That proves nothing except that he is still fit. He was fast when he was getting poleaxed by Tarver and Johnson as well. "Captain Hook" would be annihilated by any prime top class fighter. That's why he will never fight one again, but will keep fooling people in fights against carefully handpicked doughnuts like Sheika and Lacy.
Captain Hook. Loved his antics pre-fight. Tyson was so shot that he couldn't even beat Danny Williams or Kevin McBride. Now that was a shot item.
I'd say Tyson was pretty much shot by around 1999. Holyfield had asserted his superiority over him, and Tyson did not look good against Botha (despite an ATG KO). Yet he still had it in him to blow through guys like Norris, Savarese and Etienne. Jones is pretty much the same now. Like a shot Tyson was embarrassed by Lewis after Holyfield had already shown him the door from world title level fights, Jones was embarrassed by Calzaghe after Tarver and Johnson had already shown him the door from world title level fights. Where Tyson could still KO rubbish comp as that was his style, Jones can still dazzle rubbish comp as that was his style. Don't be fooled.
I just think we have differing opinions on what a shot fighter is, much like the All-time great discussion. A shot fighter is someone who can't perform anymore, period. Ali against Holmes, Leonard against Camacho, Chavez vs Tyzsu. All shot fighters at the time of those defeats. Jones was suffering from special circumstances in my judgment, moving up and down in weight didn't help his punch resistance, and getting knocked out didn't help his confidence. He's a past prime fighter, on the fringe of being totally shot, but he performed far to go good last time out for me...it was spooky.
There's nothing spooky about toying with a punchbag. Come down to my gym and you'll see idiots doing it every day. To me, a world class fighter is shot if he gets KO'd or embarrassed every time he goes near world class level anymore. Roy was of course a world class fighter, and the last three world level opponents he has faced (Tarver, Johnson, Calzaghe) have either KO'd or embarrassed him. If he ever gets so delusional that he goes in against a world level opponent again (like Dawson), the same will happen again, because he is shot and only looks good against shot or **** opposition.
Eh, Taylor is in pretty bad shape. I can see Ward with his speed landing a shot that Taylor doesnt see and its nighty night again.
another telling sign of your intelligence. if you have a well thought retort, please state it. otherwise your wasting other people's time.
Roy Jones Jr. had been shot to **** for YEARS now. Means nothing on Joe's resume. The Calzaghe-Hopkins thing was dreadful AND close. I thought Hopkins edged it, but it's not a "fight" worth arguing over. Kessler is a better win that both on Calzaghe's resume, IMO. But Kessler was not anything special at all. Calzaghe's performance against Jeff Lacy is his signature win though, IMO. Kessler was a better boxer but the way Calzaghe beat Lacy was just sublime.
Okay, we have a learning experience here. Watch this post and compare it with your previous ones, you´ll see a change going on there I agree with this one. :good
That´s what I think too. If the Taylor of the Abraham and Froch fight shows up, Ward is in serious trouble imo.
Yes but a shot to **** Jones did the same thing to Lacy. Its easy for these guys to look good against one dimensional fighters, especially one with only one punch!
