Even Ottke's trainer was quoted In Boxing Monthly as saying that he wanted Sven to fight Joe, but Sven didn't want It and wanted to stay the IBF champ.

You believe what you wish to believe regarding Calzaghe. If you looked at it objectively for just a moment you would realise there are too many occasions where people "ducked" him or he got "injured" for it to be believable unless he is the unluckiest man in the world of course.

It is always the opponents or his hands fault, right?

Mate I bashed Jones's resume a few days ago in relation to how people regard him. Some people regard Jones as one of the best ever, where as I was saying his resume is not.

I never said Jones' resume was crap, anyone with wins over Hopkins, Toney, Hill etc....has a good resume, just not in relation to how some people rate him overall as a fighter.

Wake me when Calzaghe becomes more than a PAPER CHAMPION.

That's right - he is a PAPER CHAMPION. You can buttlick him all you want, kiss his ass, whatever. But until he beats Kessler and proves himself, he is a PAPER CHAMPION, and nothing more. He has won titles in ONE division, and PAPER titles at that.

What you fools don't realize is that a fighter has to prove that he is the real deal before people accept him as one. NOT the other way around! Paper titles and defending against the PETER MANFREDOS of the world does not make you elite :hi::hi::hi::hi::hi:

Blocky wasn't a Calzaghe ballhugger like you, he was just a Kessler hater.

Fair enough. A discussion for later on as this is a Calzaghe thread.

Feel free to hi-jack it. It isn't as though the reverse has never happened to a Jones thread.

Not my style if I can help it. Besides, been enough talk about Jones lately. Calzaghe has a big fight coming up.

Sometimes people don't bash resume's, but the 'route' that some take. You already know that I personally regard Jones very highly despite not really liking him as a person, Jones normally took on the good challenge and it was in fact Benn and Eubank who priced themselves out and truthfully wanted no part of Roy Jones Jr.

On the other hand we have Floyd Mayweather, a guy at his physical peak and while he has a good resume already, he's blatantly hand picking opponents and I don't respect that. Some will say 'Calzaghe never fought anyone' and they can think this, but Calzaghe was NEVER a big money making draw like the P4P #1 is.

Calzaghe chose to fight Kessler, the best in his division at this point.

Mayweather hand picked Hatton, a guy from a division down who's extremely overrated and tailor made for his style, Floyd clearly did not pick or even attempt your Cotto's, Williams' etc at the 147 division. He hand picked Hatton after his big money maker against a past it, overrated DLH.

If Calzaghe was the P4P #1 right, let's just say coming off Kessler and Dawson wins and THEN chose a still undefeated, but heavily overmatched Kelly Pavlik INSTEAD of another choice being say Zsolt Erdei, I would not respect that choice.

Floyd's proven to be a hand picker, Roy was less wanted more so, because Roy was more 'unbeatable' than the WW version of Floyd IMO.

    Does this make sense?:think

No way KG, some of these clowns will never understand that Jones would not lose to Moore, Charles, Conn and other extremely overrated old time fighters, so we can clearly drill it into their heads until they understand.:D

    :patsch :patsch :patsch

Kind of would have helped if he had all the belts around 02-03, but the shysters who held them were Beyer and Ottke, Girard for a bit also. Which those matches were almost impossible to make considering all of those guys were making money in their home countries wanting NO PART of unification.

Wanting no part of the threat Calzaghe was either.

You don't understand boxing politics at all, because YesIhaveArm clearly displayed why the matches against Western stars were near impossible to make.

Pisses me off that twats like Beyer and Ottke who Calzaghe would have absolutley destroyed held titles for so long.

I mean it, Calzaghe vs Beyer or Ottke would have literally been like Calzaghe fighting some random guy off the streets, that how one-sided it would have been.

Everyone knows that Joe was the real SMW champ at that time even tho he didnt hold he ABC belts, so why people call him a paper champ is beyond me.
