News flash: Joe Calzaghe is NOT Trevor Burbuck, William Joppy or Sven Ottke. I have made no argument my friend, therefore there is no "crux".

I'm glad this forum gives you an outlet to express your opinion. But having an "historical" knowledge of boxing doesn't really lend any crediblity to your argument, if that argument is based soley on your dislike for a certain fighter and a determination to discredit that fighters achivements.

In my view, it counts quite low down. Jones just didn't perform, and the absolute level of performance of your opponent iscritical when ranking the importance of a win.

I'd say Calzaghe's wins over Hopkins, Kessler, Lacy (because Calzaghe put in an amazing performance), Mitchell, Reid and Eubank all rank higher. Even his performance against Bika could possibly rank higher, in my view, except that Calzaghe didn't perform so well in that fight, and that is important too. Against Jones, Calzaghe performed very well, although it wasn't his best performance by any means.

No way Eubank should be above Hopkins. Eubank was still a good win, faded but not shot, Hopkins was a very close fight, but the victory alone is a very very good name IMO.

Rjj has fallen in quality from one of the most talented to ever fight to merely a solid world class fighter. I think that win was roughly about the Brewer, Mitchell level. The name Jones obscures things somewhat.

Quality of opponent(at time of fight) and performance combined

    Kessler
    Hopkins
    Lacy
    Eubank
    Mitchell
    Woodhall
    Reid
    Jones
    Sheika
    Veit 1
    Bika
    Brewer
    Veit 2
    Starie
    Mckrchitan
    Manfredo Jr
Delaney( a nobody on the world stage but a huge fight in his development)

That would be my list. Thought of Lacy at 2 simply because his performance was so good that night, but Hopkins shaded it.

Yes a very close fight but lets remeber Eubank whilst a little past his prime was established at world level. Calzaghe on the other hand was still green, he had never been 12, and Eubank showed what he had left when he took Carl Thompson to the wire.

When he fought B-Hop, i thought Calzaghe performed crap and he had been number 1 in his dvision and obviously he had become established.

I think B-Hop is a waaay better fighter than Eubank but as a way of significance i think the Eubank fight was more significant in the moulding of Calzaghe's career.

Gotta rank the Woodhall win over Veit, Woodhall was for WBC champ after all, though I do think Veit is an underrated win for Joe ad a fair defence to make.

Hopkins - 160 legend, was reigning 175 champ after beat Tarver, demolished the next big thing after losing to Calzaghe.

Kessler - Undefeated WBC & WBA champion, went on to regain WBA belt after losing to Calzaghe.

Eubank - Was past his peak, but Calzaghe was pretty green when he beat him and Eubank was the biggest name in Brit sport at the time, a very good win for Cazaghe. Went onto to fight for the cruiserweight titles after losing to Joe.

RJJ - Even a old roy was ranked top ten at 175, this for me is the equivalent of Lennox's win over Tyson, yes his was past his peak, but was definiately a name worth adding to the resume - there were plenty of people who thought olf Roy Jones could beat Joe Calzaghe.

Lacy - was undefeated IBF champion and favourite going into the fight with ''old Joe''. Probably the most perfect peice of domination you will see at the highest level. Calzaghes finest performance for sure.

Mitchell - Former 2 times WBA world champ, never been stopped.

    Brewer - Former IBF champion.

Prime Robin Reid - Robin at his peak was a very dangerous man, he had won and lost the WBC title and Joe beat him while injured. Reid went onto to get robbed by Joe rival champ Ottke and mustve been ranked a top 10 168lber for nearly a decade.

    Woodhall - Former WBC champ.

    Some underrated wins imo are;

Omar Sheika- He was a highlyu touted American contender at the time, and was coming of a win against Glen Johnson, Joe outclassed him.

Veit - Calzaghe gets a bit of stick for this, but he was 30-0 when Calzahe demolished him, but he improved a lil bit to get the WBO interim title, when Joe had to beat him again. I think Veit was 2 very reasonable defences for Calzaghe.

Sakio Bika - A dirty ******* who would give anyone in the division a tough night, Calzaghe won 10 rounds out of 12. Nika is still a legit top 10 super middle.

David Starie - Joe looked **** but dominated Starie who was Brit and Commonwealth champ, with a win over Clinton Woods on his record, not a complete doughut.

Though there have also been some defences that are impossible to explain with a straight face...:D

Calzaghe is a HOFer for sure.

Calzaghe's resume is going to look pretty good when people look back in 50 years time without knowing circumstances of this victory especially. The names themselves look good.

I think thats what he's been going for in the last year.
