I dont like the man but he won the fight easy, But the pleasure he seemed to take in beating up a 39 year old past his prime legend yes Jones showboated but i will use an example when Jones fought Mike McCallum who was way past his best he carried him and didnt showboat, Do you think Calzaghe would have showboated against Jones in his prime?

yes, but probably not to the same extent. Also remember Jones started the Showboating against Calzaghe after the Knockdown, Joe was obviously embaressed and repaid in spades.

that ring was filled by the 2 most arrogant fighters in the last 20 years both of them showboat and RJJ started it but JC was the one who finished it off.

both of them standing with gloves at waist looking for pot shots was a nice sight.
but i locer the way JC would throw the the body and just rest his face against RJJ's gloves

Live by the sword die by the sword

RJJ was being a cocky ***** after the KD, so Calzaghe took the **** out of him for 11 rounds.

I have no problem with it.

I think Calzaghe was just trying to make the fight an entertaining spectacle against a fighter he knew was an entertainer.

To be honest, I thought Jones Jr would've fired up more at the whole thing, he was basically being Roy Jones Jr'ed by Calzaghe and I think that was part of the tactic, to get Roy Jones Jr off guard by dancing, offering up chances and then using them to hit back.

Even think the kind of guy Calzaghe is, he was probably trying to fire up Jones Jr too to make the fight more entertaining for the fans in the same way he did against Lacy.

You know that somewhere guys like Montell Griffin and David Telesco were cheering on Joe's showboating.

For years Jones showboated, so why should he not get some of his own medicine in return.

    I totally agree.

The two reasons Joe was showboating was
    This content is protected
    and
    This content is protected
. If the other guy is showboating or posing, it can make him look like he's in charge of the fight. It's an "I'm in control" thing. So Joe answered in kind. There were stretches where not a lot of punches were being thrown, so each guy was trying to 'out-strut' the other to make it look like they were in charge and impress the judges and entertain the fans.

Calzaghe totally respects Jones, and Roy knows that. There was a lot of build-up to the fight and it really wasn't that great of a fight, so Joe was trying to jazz up the crowd and Roy a bit with the antics, give people some entertainment. Remember, people were booing later in the match. After all the hype for the fight, that's the last thing you want to hear.

This version we saw is just not the Roy Jones we used to see in his prime. It is a fact. This version has no confidence at all, and anyone with clear vision could see that. He knows his reflexes are long gone, that is why he can not just bombard Joe with his combinations even if Joe was tempting him to do that. (That was a pity actually to see. Because I am very sure he would not even think about trying it against a prime Jones. No way he would have the guts to even think of showboating against Jones.) :deal

As Roy Jones Jr once said.

"People say I been beating nobodies, I just make em look like nobody"

Sometimes, you can only fight as well as the other guy lets you. Calzaghe was all over him and making him fight at a pace he wasn't going to be able to sustain throughout the fight, all the while investing heavily to the body.

It was a clinic by Calzaghe, while Roy was no where near his prime, neither is Joe - Joe in the past would have thrown heavier to the head, especially when the cut opened.

Yes he would have, Joe's ego is a beast, its why when he's in trouble he's very easy to engage. He might not have done it to the extent he did, but he would have without doubt done it.

I thought it was ****ing funny when he was sticking his head on Roy's chest and peeking up at him between his gloves...he looked like a duck or a swan or something
