I have no doubts that Joe Calzghe is a great fighter and one of the best fighters in this era. You dont become 45-0 off of luck. The problem that I see with this matchup is that Calzaghes greatest asset will ultimately become the reason that he loses to Roy Jones. He has quick footwork but Calzaghe can really only be effective when coming forward. Fighting off of his back foot will not allow him to be effective with the style her carries. Roy Jones on the other hand can counter punch very well when going backwords. I also dont believe that Joe Calzaghe has really any other gameplan other than "throwing punches in bunches". He doesnt have the aresenal that Roy Jones has, not is he defensive minded. (hence the reason he cant fight effectively going backwards) This particular matchup will be won on the Power & Accuracy of Roy Jones IMO. It will not mean that Calzaghe is overrated or not a great champion, it will mean that he just lost to the more superior fighter.......ROY JONES JR
Well Jeff Lacy is pretty much a 1 trick pony that is slow, maybe I shouldve clarified that he couldnt be effective VS a fighter like Roy Jones:deal
calzaghe is flawed by his career choice - thats why he can boast upon his record only. if he was a complete fighter his career would have taken a different turn.
Up until 3 hours before the fight I thought Joe was the winner by Ud or even KO. Only putting Roys recent losses into perspective has made me worry somewhat. This is a win win situation for me, I missed Roy at his peak and regret not giving Joe the respect he deserves on his epic journey. Roll on one hour!
just a bunch of haters here. no rationale. one guy is undefeated, the other nearly died in the ring from one punch 4 fights ago...
Calzaghe's sloppiness and awkward style are to his advantage here. Manny Steward had commnented that he never saw anyone put that much pressure on Hopkins before. It frustrated B-Hop who resorted to holding for the last 6 rnds. I think Joe's style disrupts 39 year old Jones. Calzaghe by UD.
Joe looks more relaxed and cheerful than I have ever seen him right before a fight. Last time I saw a fighter look like that was Pavlik before the Hopkins fight. A sign of things to come?
I think that is a bit blinkered, and biased - and fair play to you! I was super confident of Joes victory as I said previously. The thing is you can't take anything away from Jones - this is going to be fantastic fight. I genuinely hope Joe wins - GO JOE! Also props to Jones Jr - legend. I can't wait!
