Roy Jones Jnr had never fought a pro fight outside the USA, he fights in Australia and gets hammered, Americans Taylor and Dirrell both fight in Europe and both lose, Kessler fights in the USA and gets butted to death, not to mention other home boxers like Bernard Hopkins and Amir Khan easily winning in the last few weeks.
Its not easy fighting away from home, time zones, climate, food, language, away from family, local officials, the roar of the crowd when the home boxer gets some punches off influencing the judges, yet Calzaghe overcame these obsticles to win.
