Joe Calzaghe was a damn good fighter. Greatest Super Middleweight in the History of the sport.

if calzaghe is in the top 100 of all-time because of his win over bhop, we have to put jermain taylor above because he beat bhop twice, three years before calzaghe did.

I think Calzaghe beats Hopkins 7 out of 10 and I'll also say I think Hopkins was closer to his prime when they fought (due to his longevity) but I'd say RJJ was by the best during his prime. Obviously the steroid controversy takes a lot away from RJJ's standing, since he most likely took steroids for most of his prime. They are all greats but Hopkins has done more than the other 2 since he has the best resume/longevity so I'd say the majority of people will rank him highest although a prime RJJ probly beats any of his or Calzaghe's opponents more convincingly than they did. Personaly I like Calzaghe most of the 3 due to his heart and exciting style.

Quite alot of assumptions there regarding Jones. Wasn't what Jones took a legal substance that was available over the counter that both fighters(Jones and Hall) tested positive for? And isn't that the only fight Jones ever tested positive?

Joe was a good boxer with a great work rate. Probably the best super middle of his era and one of the best British fighters of all time.

But THE best super middle ever? Better than Jones? Better than B-Hop? I can't see it.

Joe did well, but Jones has achieved more in the sport. Hopkins too has achieved more than Joe and continues to fight at the top level.

Joe had good skills but he was hardly the most eye catching or exciting fighter. Hopkins and Jones in particular both have more exciting and more relevant fights on their records than Joe. Unfortunately most of Joe's defences were against quite mediocre fighters.

Joe struggled to better an aged Hopkins and got decked by him at light heavy. Joe also got decked by a shot Jones. However Joe didn't have the power to stop even a shot Jones who had already been knocked out cold twice by fairly average fighters. A younger B Hop and a pre heavyweight Jones would have made for different fights.

Joe isn't that old. He should have kept fighting. Had he went on to fight the Tarvers, Johnsons, Dawsons, Pascals and Pavliks his legacy might look more impressive. Being undefeated is fine, but the greatest warriors in the sport have all lost a few and all boxed on a little too long.

Respect to Joe, twenty defenses, great champion. However he didn't achieve quite enough to be among the very best.

Joe Calzaghe = very good fighter but let's look at all of his career achievements:

From either the Ring Magazine or the BWAA

fighter of the year awards - none
fight of the year awards - none
round of the year awards - none
ko of the year awards - none
months ranked as the #1 lb for lb best fighter - none

he did win the 2008 manager of the year award from the bwaa. an award so prestigious that they didn't even award it this past year. i'm assuming he won that award for managing to stay away from good fighters in their prime for his entire career. congrats joe!

Pointless accolades given by American armchair fans.

Are you seriously telling me had Joe Calzaghe not been either Black, American, or both, he wouldn't have more of these? exactly, infact if you look at how JMM is hyped, then being of ethnic origin would be enough to make him top 5 atg.

Hopkins and Jones ducked Joe for years, so did Nunn, Toney, Dawson, Pavlik, Tarver, Otke, Collins etc etc all ducked prime Joe, washed up bloated Joe smashed the **** out of the best of those, RJJ ducked Benn and Eubank, and he was petrified of McClennan. RJJ beat a bunch of bums and ducked the best, Calzaghe is the most avoided man in sports history.

Your Vcash and rather dubious avatar containing a half naked male that clearly isn't you confirms both your limited sporting knowledge and sexual orientation.:verysad:-:)barf:barf

And he destroyed the next coming of Mike Tyson. 95% of the board (mostly yanks) predicted JCs destruction at the hands of Lacy and then ended up with egg on their faces hence their biterness. The day after the fight it was like a f*cking desert on here.

He probably is serious, but he's from the UK, so that's expected. Anyone that claims Hopkins was prime is obviously being an ass or just plain stupid.
