Kessler because for the first half of the fight it was a back and forth ..Then I'd have to say the Bika fight ..But I could lump that fight up with the Hopkins fight as Joe's ugliest fights !
I thought joe had to fight the best he had ever fought against kessler otherwise he would have lost, though reid came the closest to beating him
I dont think Hop was his toughest fight physically, but given Hopkins' persistant cheating and Cortez's aparent disregard for Hop bending the rules it made it his 'closest' fight. Reid was a tough fight due to Joes injury, Eubank was his first world title fight 12 rounder and he went a an amazing pace so that has to be ranked as one of his hardest fights aswel.
It really should have been Hopkins, Kessler and Reid as they were clearly his 3 toughest fights. Even Eubank was tougher than Jones, due to Calzaghe being green up against a vet. Hell, Bika, Mitchell, many were tougher than Jones. Hopkins/Kessler were difficult in different ways. Hopkins had a tough style and made it really ugly, but Calzaghe didn't have to deal with a lot coming back after the first few rounds. So whilst he wasn't dominating Hopkins, it felt like he was just taking rounds without danger through the middle to late period. Kessler presented an easier style, but he hit Calzaghe with a greater volume of stinging punches, missed opportunities for big punches, and I always felt he was dangerous for a full 12, underlined by round 12 itself.
from the list...Kessler. Hopkins was awkward but just didn't do enough to really trouble JC after the first few rounds. Kessler was a danger for much longer.
If the JC said Eubanks was his youghest fight then you can not argue with that. I thought Bika was a tough fight because he got ruffed allot iand Bika was very agressive.
