i thought we needed another calzaghe thread so... :)

in the five years after calzaghe won his WBO belt (which was not even recognized at the time) vs eubank, i've listed the fighters calzaghe defended against and their combined opponent record in their last 5 wins to get a shot at the wbo title. enjoy!

sobot: combined opponent record in last 5 wins before joe: 82-50-5
    ferrerya: 23-27-7
reid: 110-12-3, reid was defending wbc belt during this time
    thornberry: 29-68-6
    starie: 78-21-1
    shieka: 129-36-3
    woodhall: 140-34-3
    veit 1: 141-58-4
    -------------------------------
should be noted here that in 2001 the wbo promoted darrin morris up in their super middle rankings from #7 to #5 after he died.
    -------------------------------
    mcintyre: 55-55-6
    brewer: 113-234-18 (fought reggie strickland)
    jimenez: 56-59-11
    pudwill: 48-201-11

this is as bad as you'll find in history. undeserving opponents, save reid, who fought bad fighters to get a chance to fight for the wbo belt vs joe but yet some still feel joe belongs with the greats of the sport. during this span, sven ottke was recognized by the ring as the #1 super middle in the world.

Disregard the fact that he beat Eubank, RJJ, Hopkins, Lacy, and Kessler.

You wasted your time making this thread.

    That's about right.

Calzaghe is the King Of The Bums.

One things for sure. Any bum can compile a KO filled resume fighting the bums who fight out of Britain and it's cousin countries.

you must be around 13 years old or so. the wbo belt was looked at like the wbf and ibc belts are today. just a belt that no one recognized. those of us that were around understand this. plus, you stopped reading because the truth hurts.

...it's clear who the 13 year old is, so don't lie.

Eubank, Watson, Collins & Benn all made the wbo 168lb title legit before Calzaghe won it, so let's stop with the silly revisionism.

They were awful but have a look at some of Jones Jr's "title defences" when he was so called P4P#1.

all UK fighters. nothing revisionist here. the belt was never recognized during this time in the US by the media or fans. this is the belt that frank ****** owned so british fighters could call themselves champs.

Stop obsessing over Calzaghe. It's sad. Really.

The fact you claim RJJ as a legit win shows how weak his resume is.

You can claim Bhop and Kessler. Eubanks was short notice and past his best.
