No Hopkins was King Of The Bums. In his "title defenses" he had the never to be remembered trilogy with Robert Allen.

His championship reign was pretty much an all-time disgrace until he grew some balls in 2006. 9 years of utter shite, which is the main reason I don't recognize the guy as a great.

Calzaghe beating hopkins silenced a lot of critics.

you're ****ing stupid. one shot fighter beats a bunch of other shot fighters after being brutally ko'd twice, and now he's not shot. with standards like that i see why you cling to calzaghe's balls so hard.

Put up the stats of another fighter for comparison.

When you actually compare him with just about anyone, he has the best stats.

Champions make a title imo. All of these title's sanctioning bodies are corrupt to some extent.

If you look at Bute, who imo is very talented, he has fought slightly weak comp for a champion (weaker than Calzaghe at that stage imo) but he's not entirely to blame.

Bute did duck Kessler a few years back by openly saying he wasn't ready but I bet he'd like to take on any of the top guys now given a fair deal and he'd beat most imo. He can't get these fights at the moment because of circumstances and people blame him and it's similar to what Calzaghe's situation was. He lost to Andrade the first time imo but he'd have a very good shot at beating Ward. His biggest weakness is punch resitance and I don't think Ward could exploit that.

Calzaghe was only floored 4 times by flash KD's pro/am (Hopkins and Jones KD's being debatable) some people on here try to say he had a weak chin.

No one on here really knows 100% the circumstances behind these deals.

    how about these stats:
number of past, current, or future world title holders faced: (in an era where there's four champs per division)

    jones - 22
    hopkins - 19, including dawson
    pacquiao - 17
    mayweather - 16, including ortiz
    calzaghe - 9

    Yeah, Joe's prime was wasted.

How many fights have these guys had each?

without doing any research the ratio of fights had vs world champions fought would have been much closer. Joe Calzaghe had 46 fights, if he had fought more than 50 times he would have taken on more world champions.

all of these guys would basically need to have twice the fights that calzaghe did for the ratios to match and that's not the case.

de la hoya fought 25 champs to joe's 9 in a 45 fight career, 1 fight less than joe.
