21 defenses of a wbo title, which when he won it, wasn't even considered a major belt. joe was a very good fighter but he spent almost his entire career in a horribly weak divsion and didn't even fight the best there until lacy and kessler. imagine if every top fighter fought to the level of calzaghe's resume. we'd have hundreds of undefeated fighters throughout history.

good point and this shows how bad the division was. i remember joe calling manfredo a "superstar" after the fight because he was on the contender. :rofl

    When was Hopkins Prime?

(Joe would have had an easier time with a younger Hopkins IMO)

joe fought bika in 2006. he wasn't ranked. that must be hard for you to understand. please use the link to check the rankings. it'll back my post up but i'm sure someone will just post that calzaghe was really great because he had 21 wbo title defenses.

"the ring" = american hype job mag.
They had Dawson @ no3 at some stage.ffs.
    Their rankings are absolute joke.

good post. this makes it all better and all those guys calzaghe fought were really great fighters. the ring just chose not to recognize them. why was there such a big deal about joe winning the ring belts at 168 and 175?

dawson had 2 wins over tarver, 2 over johnson and a win over adamek. he's ranked #3 right now.

There are just a lot of americans who cant stand calzaghe for whatever reasons and thats just the way it is, its probably something about hopkins losing to him, it seems to have infuriated a lot of them

    Thread has been closed.
Ur whole argument was about the ranked "ring" fighters..

I just demonstrated that ring is a joke of ranking system...
    Which it is...:patsch:patsch

Eubank when calzaghe beat him at 168lb was probably the 2 best fighter in that weight class..Who cares he wasn't ranked by the "shitty USA hypejob ring mag"....

    Now jog on

very few fighters in the WBO top 20 are in a legit world top 20.

People forget Calzaghe was fighting in the weakest division in boxing....the fact that Lacy was highly regarded should tell anyone the division talent pool was ****

the only answers i've got is that the ring ratings are a joke. if that's true than joe never deserved to be light heavyweight champ when he beat 43 yr old bhop. joe won the ring magazine title but i guess that's a joke as well.

with that said, i think joe was a very good fighter. anyone that steps in the ring gets my respect. my comments are towards his inane fans calling him an all-time great. joe may get in the hall of fame. i would disagree but that's up to the voters. my point is you cannot compare joe to the true greats of the sport by either his resume or h2h.

Lacy was a good prospect until he met calzaghe...
He broke his heart / soul / boxing career in that fight..

you dont even think he will get into the hof?? thats amazing, hate him or like him hes definitely in there. There is a BIG difference between hof and ATG, calzaghe is a HOF'er for sure but not an ATG, he just didnt do enough for that
