Quite an insight into what it's like for Joe to make 168lbs. I saw him training on Inside Sport programme last Monday, & he looked gaunt then, & that was training footage from a week or two ago.

I reckon Joe could with the help of guy like Kerry Kayes in his camp. Kayes knows all their is to know about diet, nutrition, losing weight, becoming stronger etc.

I also feel the article shows just how disciplined, committed & dedicated Calzaghe is. People may say Joe is not that big for a SMW, but he's been at 168lbs his while pro career, & with age you put weight on. It's nature I guess.

I bet come Calzaghe's mood right about now is on tenderhooks. Man must have a very short fuse right about now & even more so come thursday night as he says he may not be able to sleep because of him being hungry.

I wonder if moving up to light heavyweight would make him even better, in the mold of Hopkins

Good article, especially the refreshing honesty from Joe.

training in double sweatsuits does not sound state-of-the-art to me, but I guess it works for him.

Making 12st sounds like torture and must take a lot out of Joe. I think moving up to light heavyweight could extend his career for another couple of fights.

Hopkins looked great when he fought Tarver at 175lbs and RJJ was excellent when he moved up to heavyweight against John Ruiz. Chris Eubank gave Carl Thompson nightmares in 2 wars at Cruiserweight.

After Kessler he should move up to 175lbs and fight.......................?

If he loses to Kessler though I think he might retire which would be a shame. But I see him winning.

He has no less than 36 hours to regain his strength after the weigh-in.

How can you train on 200 calories per day?

Calzaghe probably hasn't trained in the last 6 years, yet he still keeps winning.

    It's 500 calories...and only for 4 and a half days...

Apparently it is 500 calories in the days leading up to the fight, and nothing the day before.

Kessler is a big super middleweight though and must have similar weight making woes. He's much younger though which might make all the difference.

weight making will not be a problem for either; neither will be drained...they have 36 hours to regain their strength...

Agreed. And if Calzaghe beats Kessler that would be the natural fight. A lot of people say Chad Dawson but he's still coming up. Hopkins is the name fighter, one of the best from Joe's era and still has a lot left apparently. The fight has been talked about for ages and would generate huge interest stateside and in the UK.

But let's not look past Kessler. Joe certainly isn't.
