I give him credit for winning tonight, I thought the fight was good. Calzahge showed his ability to adjust tonight when it seemed he was uncomfortable. Bernard slowed down as the rounds went on and Calzahge was able to take advantage. However there were things tonight that Calzahge showed that another opponent like Roy Jones would take advantage of. Calzahge's bad balance would cost him against a guy like Jones. As well as his inability to avoid shots. Let's be real if Bernard Hopkins who has probably the lowest punch output in all of boxing was able to catch Calzahge with good shots and even knock him down, there's no doubt in my mind that a fight between Jones and Calzahge would be ALOT better than most people think, benefiting Jones. Those sloppy slapping "so called" fast punches that Calzahge throws against Jones "natural" hand speed I believe would outclass average Joe. Calzahge's bad balance as Jones showed in his fights with Trinidad and Julio Gonzalez wouldn't be good for him either. Tonight Enzo Calzahge's INABILITY to school his son on the basic fundamentals was obvious. Being as how he comes from a Jazz music backround and they learned how to box through basically teaching themsleves isn't gonna be to much of a factor against a guy like Jones. While i'll admit Jones may not be the same guy he was from his prime but he's still good enough, and after what Calzahge showed tonight more than ever is that he has flaws. He's not Superman. Jones "REAL" hand speed would cause problems for Joe being as how he was knocked down by a right hand that he didn't see coming from Bernard Hopkins. Calzahge WON'T retire undefeated if he fights Jones next. And should he choose to still retire then he will 45-1. Styles make fights and I like this matchup for Jones, Calzahge is made for him.
Very. But yes, credit where credit is due. He was the better man tonight. Doesn't make him invincible, AT ALL. On the same note, there's still very few guys in and around his weight division AT THIS TIME I would pick over him. Perhaps only Dawson, and that'd still be 50-50ish
Everybody looks bad at times, was a little bigger than normal, and he is getting old. He looked like the best 168er ever against Kessler and Lacy, its not unthinkable that he could look that good one or two more times.
True story I agree. However now he's at a weightclass that he's new to. Guys like Jones, Dawson, Johnson, and Tarver I believe would beat him. He didn't look the same tonight at 175 and he has at 168. I believe the bigger opponents would cause MAJOR problems.
Tarver lost 11 rounds to 1. Calzaghe won 9 rounds to 3, or even 10 rounds to 2 is not unvalid, great logic there. Jones dropped a couple to Tito, great logic there. Johnson, a pressure fighter.... guy who comes at Calzaghe? Great logic there. Dawson, not sure, but I pick Calzaghe to beat him.
I think Dawson vs Calzahge would be really good. Out of all those guys I think Tarver would have the most trouble, however Tarver is a physically bigger guy with a bigger punch. And it's not like Tarver won't be able to catch him, cause he can. Calzahge's defense is VERY leaky. Remember Calzahge may have done WAY BETTER against Hopkins than Tarver did but styles make fights. I think any of the guys mentioned have a real shot.
Yeah, styles make fights, if it wasn't clear that Hopkins had the style advantage and Tarver's at a heavy disadvantage, then don't continue.
Could be he needs to set into the weight better, we will see, but as it stands I am not happy with what I saw.
