First of all, I think both guys are overrated duckers. But they are comparable. What you said abouth Joe goes for Floyd too. Mosley was almost 40, Marquez was 36, Baldomir 35. Difference is, Hopkins at 43 fought like a 33 year-old.

Anyway, Floyd's resume is a bit better. But only a bit. Cotto, Margarito, Pacquiao, Williams, Martinez are all missing.

Especially Margarito: the man Floyd retired to avoid.

Mayweather, easily. His overall standard of opposition and performance have been much higher. This isn't even debatable IMO.

:huh All you've done there is underline that Floyd's is much better.

    My favourite part was this:

As much as i dislike mayweather, his resume is much better than calzaghe's. calzaghe has two good wins (hopkins and kessler) mayweather has hernandez, corrales, castillo, manfredy, de la hoya, even guys like judah and hatton were better than most of joe's wins.

    Y'all know I'm not a Mayweather fan.

And some of you know I'm a Calzaghe fan.

And while the difference is not as great as some here make out (IMO, Mayweather lost once to Castillo), I don't think you can make much of a case for Joe's resume over Floyd's.

    Mayweather, without question.

You'd have to try really hard to suggest otherwise.

Not even Calzaghe thinks he has a better record than Floyd.

I'll say Mayweather, but neither man has impressed me.

Mayweather - Great fighter, but he's a money obsessed idiot. He was brilliant coming up, but he seems to have hardened into this annoying potshotting puncher. Just like Calzaghe, as he gets older he seems to "name hunt".

Calzaghe - Another great fighter, but he's an ass. He knows (and so does his son) that he would have been destroyed by a prime Roy Jones Jr. I also think he lost to Hopkins by a hair (but a result is a result and Joe's 0 stands).

Mayweather at least took on serious challenges early in his career by taking on true contenders in his early days. Joe seems to have calculated his path very well, but in turn he missed prime opportunities to prove himself. Both are great & talented fighters that did nothing to prove to the public of their true ability. Perhaps it's just the way fights are put together these days, but these guys should have taken on more than a mandatory and/or some undersized Mexican legend.

Bigger names in the division that Floyd has fought in and wins over the smaller Marquez and Diego Corrales and Castillo put Floyd ahead but Calzage dominated 168 beating and ruining Jeff Lacy, unifying vs Kessler stand-out...Calzage beat a lot of contenders at 168 and I think he had a very long and impressive rein. Remember at 175 he was also past 35 and he made Hopkins fake a foul to get a rest (B-Hop fought cheap to try and steal a win) I had Joe winning clearly and he dominated Jones in a division that was new to him.

Floyd is a excellent fighter but I would like to see him fight Mararito or Cotto and Pac for sure.....Floyd is a great defensive fighter and counter puncher but I still do not put him in the class of a SRL or Duran or Hearns and he has not had his big fight as of yet

  11. floyd is in the class of srl duran and hearns cmon , hes been dominating for YEARS in every division hes moved through he beat quality oppostion from early and he doesnt need cotto margarito or pac to put him in there class he already is , and do you really think if he fights cotto marg or pac that they stand a chance of victory , no way he will dominate from the get go and wont let them in the fight

If Mayweather actually took the big fights - Margo 2007, Cotto 2008, Pac 2009/2010, etc, and won them, he would've at least been comparable to said legends. The stupid thing is, I'm convinced he would've beat them... but now, we'll never know. He can still prove himself by fighting Pac, the winner of Bradley/Alexander (can't wait for that one!!) and a few other big names, but I think Mayweather looked like he aged quite a lot in the Mosley fight. The way he recovered was impressive, but I don't think he looked as fast as he used... in the face he also looks to have aged 10 years during 1 year of retirement.

A bit like Holmes really: he avoided the dangerous opponents while he would've probably beaten them anyway. Such a waste. :-(
