Chavez moves up against newly crowned lightweight champ Hector Camacho. Who takes it?

Chavez still wins clearly, but a prime Camacho woulda been more competitive.

Even though speed fighters gave Chavez the most trouble, I don't think Camacho had anything that could keep Chavez off of him or earn enough respect from Julio to keep Chavez from walking him down.

Chavez by decision. It'll be closer than the one-sided brutalizing that Chavez put on Camacho in 92, but in this case I think the body attack of Chavez trumps the speed of Macho.

it is my belief that Camcho was indeed the best jr lightweight, and lighweight in the world in those days. Chavez at the time was a mere dustmote in comparison. Just happy to be holding a title

Don't get me wrong. Chavez was great but no way he's ever catching Hector or cornering him long enough other than to catch some quick one-twos

Camacho in a nailbiter, provided he's focused.

The Camacho-Ramirez fight gives me pause to think Hector could do it, but then when you see him against Rosario and Boza-Edwards, and see how Camacho responded every time he faced a great fighter (fighting for survival and nothing more) and you have to question whether he would have the mettle needed to beat someone like Chavez. I'm thinking he wouldn't. He'd take some early to mid rounds but Chavez will end on top of him. Close but clear over 12 and not so close over 15.

Hector would win 10 out of 12 rounds, and give Julio his first recorded loss.

Camacho before Rosario was a totally different bird than he was when he fought Chavez..that needs to be remembered.

Chavez by decision. When Camacho tries to hit Chavez he'll get hit. After getting hit, Camacho will run and hardly throw. Even if Camacho lands his punches will have no effect and he'll have to deal with the relentless pressure and power of Chavez. Then when Chavez finally walks him down and has him fatigued from trying desperately to keep away, Camacho will resort to excessive clinching, take a body pounding, sour himself to the crowd and judges, and lose the decision. Remember, Camacho barely eeked a decision over Rosario, a fight which most thought Rosario won, yet Chavez pounded on Rosario like he was nothing. Remember how close Haugen was with him in two fights? Yet Julio blew through Haugen. Julio was in an entirely different league, no matter what year this fight took place. No doubt Camacho was friskier at 130, but don't see it making much of a difference.
