Campbell Hatton is a very young man. Hasn't looked good so far but you can't write him off for at least a few years. He has the luxury of the best facilities, team and finances a boxer his age can have so can improve a lot in a short space of time. But it's very wrong that he was gifted a win.
He wasn't just gifted a win, he was gifted a win against a guy who took the fight at 6 days notice having only his 7th pro fight in 7 years and he schooled Campbell Hatton, teased and taunted him, danced around the ring, was more than capable of doing it for a few more rounds whilst young Campbell was gassing. It was the best fight of the night barring the main event but they totally ruined it.
Been thinking the same. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see someone taking a dive in his next fight. It also got me thinking about Tommy Fury and how easily some of his opponents must have gone down considering that welterweight sized MMA fighter had no problem taking his best shots and even had some success of his own simply because he decided he wasn't go to lie down and gave it a go.
There is nothing about him that suggests he can improve to a level even close to British title level. He is 20 years old, not 17 or 18. He has no power, speed and even his fundamentals are poor - he was “rolling punches” by bending his back pretty much 90 degrees. Sure he will inevitably improve but he won’t go far at all. I said this on another thread but he doesn’t have any of the athletic qualities that Benn has. Benn early on looked fundamentally poor but during the first lockdown made massive improvements in the gym and also got faster and stronger by jumping up to 147. As mentioned above his opponent was flown in from Spain on a week’s notice. His opponent had boxed something like six times in about seven years. And that opponent was showboating against him and landing flurries that Ian John Lewis would have halted the fight for.
Pro boxing is business: brand should be developed and advertised in order later with brand earn money. For away corner vs these prospects part time boxers are most suitable, especially if with short notice. BoxRec: Campbell Hatton BoxRec: Sonni Martinez ‘’ Pillow fisted part time boxer on short notice. Casual business flowchart. BoxRec: Levi Dunn Bag, BoxRec: Jesus Ruiz ‘ Bag,
Ring rusty part time boxers from aboard on short notice too is common business flowchart. With difference that usually such fights are in small hall/ medium size events not very big shows.
It's really not the lads fault, he can only try his best but the simple facts are , he is being made to rush his career and fight on these big events because his promoter ( hearn ) wants to make as much money out of him as possible. Shock horror I know!! But look how he has brought some fighters on like buatsi etc compared to this poor ****er!! Hearn knows deep down he is never going to make it. Hearn is to blame because he should be nowhere near that show on Saturday after a handful of fights and his dad and uncle should really be managing him better. Another couple of fights like that and he will be in trouble because he was taking flush shots again and again for 6 rounds. If the opponent had any kind of power the lad could be in serious trouble atm. It's totally wrong and however much hearn chats **** he needs to realise your name doesn't mean you shoukd be putting yourself at risk this early in your career.
Tbh if Hatton gets a dodgy points win in his next fight I reckon he’ll be very loudly boo’ed from there on in. He came out to massive cheers on Saturday and when the cards were read out there was loud boo’s
For next fight most likely they will find someone like absolute boxing bag. Like maybe some local alcoholic on short notice, I had saw such solutions ( not in U.K and no connection with eddie or uk boxing ) for prospect.
Exactly, this is what turns boxing fans, delusional talk and arrogance and that's we are seeing from the Hattons. Campbell himself said he gave Martinez maybe 1 round.. 2 at most. Everybody saw it, everybody knew he lost, the crowd boo'ed the decision, the comms said he lost and even the interviewer told him he basically lost and yet instead of saying "I'll have a look when I get home and if I thought I lost I'll tell you.. but I thought I did just enough" Something different from "I could only give Martinez a round.." when that was clearly an outrageous statement. I have a feeling they will swerve the rematch, they will "move forward" and won't go over "old ground" and move on to the next one but even that's a problem, who do they match him with? Hearn has said he wants the rematch but watching that Hatton will get stopped.
I think no matter how long they mess around at this sort of level, as soon as he steps up to any kind of level he’s gonna get absolutely rinsed and stopped
And as for Ricky Hatton having sly digs at us mere mortals.. Well, we have a say when we are buying Tickets and PPVs, if we don't then don't ask us to buy tickets and PPVs, wenare your customers and they say the customer is always right. And be careful Hatton Sr, you will turn the fans and once they turn it's difficult to get them back. They will take great delight in watching Campbell get filled in and he won't get the support when he "rebuilds" after being tanked by some 3-12 fighter with 0 KOs.
Yeah, if Martinez had any sort of power he would have stopped him, in fact I think Martinez might in a rematch.l the man had 6 days notice, imagine what he might be able to do on a 8-10 week camp.
