from f*ghtnews...... Campbell to sign with Oscar! By Flattop Former unified lightweight champion Nate Campbell is close to signing a promotional contract with Golden Boy Promotions. Campbell spoke exclusively to FightNews regarding this matter: “It’s absolutely true Flattop. We’re close. VERY close. I have to do what’s best for my family and my legacy. People think I’m mad with Don, but I’m really not. It’s just in my best interests to move on. Nobody wants to work with Don anymore, and he can’t get me the kind of fights I need at this point in my career, and Golden Boy can. It’s that simple. Remember, I was already the #1 mandatory to Diaz when we signed with Don in the first place, so it isn’t like he moved me into that spot or anything. Terry made those moves, not Don. And since the Diaz fight, all Don has brought was the Guzman nightmare and the Funeka fight (both mandatories), who’s names would only be recognized by about 15 people in the US combined. It’s not my fault that nobody wants to work with Don, and I cant fight that battle for him. He’s got to deal with that on his own. I had to move on. And Golden Boy is really the perfect fit for me right now. They have the names I want to fight, like Marquez and Hatton, and they can get the TV dates, plus other promoters will work with them, and they really can get things done. My signing bonus will be more than I made the entire time I was with King, you feel me? Richard and Eric can get me the Marquez fight, meanwhile Don is talking about Devon Alexander, who ain’t never fought nobody. Come on brother. Be serious. It ain’t even a debate anymore. Look, this deal with Golden Boy will put me in the fights that can secure the future for my family, and establish my legacy. And honestly, that’s all I’ve ever wanted from this game. So hopefully Terry and Golden Boy can get this thing wrapped up quick, because I’m dying to get back in the gym.”
Wow! I remember about this time last year Nate was really hammering Shaffer and Golden Boy and now he's gonna sign with them. I don't blame Nate for selling out because he's at the end of his career and needs to do what's best for him. It's just somewhat surprising.
Can Nate really get Marquez to fight him? Marquez also wants to fight the bigger fishes before he himself will retire. Unfortunately, Nate is not one of the bigger fishes. Maybe Nate can fight Valero.
I wonder what his new boss will say about Nate's views on the Ring belts etc that were published online in several interviews last year. That said, a wise move for Campbell. Makes Marquez V Campbell at 140 a lot easier to negotiate!
lol...more proof that this onepunch is so full of **** he talk **** about guzman not making weight then for his next title bout he come in overweight and before then he trash golden boy promotion on how they run there company just to be on his knee sucking off richard what a hypocrite and how stupid can he really be if he think he fighting marquez..lol he will be a gatekeeper for what he worth........
well who did you expect Campbell to sign with? Don King wasn't working so Lou DiBella, Bob Arum and Golden Boy were the next logical choices and besides if Nate really wants that fight vs Marquez .. why not sign with JMM promoter (to make fight negotiations easier) hopefully Marquez/Campbell can be soon as I don't see JMM with too many fight options at 135, and besides Marquez is going to have to move up to 140 if he wants the 3rd Pacquiao fight.
Could mean a future fight between Nate and Marquez while they wait for the winner of Hatton - Pacquiao.
Better than being with Don King....I just dont get it why most under Don, at the end of their career they go bankrupt....You just can't trust him..
