Look foolish on ESB? Heaven forbid. Life on Earth as we know it would end. Cue the four horsemen....

Good post. Martinez has had it rough in the boxing world, and I find it amazing he doesn't seem bitter at all about any of it. He's got some good wins over some solid opponents, but he didn't achieve a fraction of what he could have.

No -- I do not think it would make me look foolish. If Pavlik can't take this guy to freaking school, he would not survive the onslaught of young talent coming up at 160, and he sure as hell won't do anything at 168.

I've studied four Martinez fights very carefully: Margarito, Bunema, Cintron, and Williams. Fans and journalists alike built this guy up to be something he is not.

In his 15 year pro career Martinez has never stopped a world class opponent, he has never scored a decision over a world class opponent, and he has never fought a legitimate middleweight.

About the same time Sergio started boxing KP was winning national amatuer titles. About the same time Pavlik whooped JT's ass for the second time, Martinez fought the great Archak Termeleksatian. If Kelly cannot look good against this guy, he is finished as a top level fighter.

    Didn't mean to bash boo.

But there's really no reason to degrade Martinez. He's worked harder and he's better than his resume suggests, and it's not his fault.

I don't care if you bash Boo. Really. I just mean that there is so much stupid **** going on here on this board sometimes that the thought of someone looking stupid is just a little funny. There are people that never even pretend to offer any boxing analysis.

I have respect for Martinez but I've watched his fights with Cintron and Williams a couple of times now. The HBO analysis is kinda funny for both. Lederman laughing at Cintron for not taking a step to the side and whacking Martinez. Mentions it twice. In the Williams fight Lampley talks about how it is 'such a high skill level' as each guy allows the other to land an uncharacteristically high percentage.

Fighters prove us wrong all the time. That is the GREAT thing about the sport. We can offer what we think will happen based on what we have seen. I'd rather be wrong on a fight analysis than be some idiot on here that just goes around posting **** all the time. I have an ignore list full of those assholes.

Pavlik is in trouble. His inactivity has resulted in a major lack of experience against unorthodox opponents. Pavlik is going to be humiliated.

It really makes the site more readable when you just eliminate the posters that never bring anything to the party.

I could take the Calzombie route, and act like every opponent my favorite fighter faces is an ATG in the making. However, I think it is more important to tell the damn truth.

Williams was ridiculously over rated. Normally sane people talked about PW being the best fighter from 147-168. When Martinez gave Williams hell all night, tons of people transferred the insanity to Martinez rather than admit that they were seriously wrong about PW.

I didn't know Martinez, but he sure has been a victim of coming from a smaller country...

It is many many more times more difficult for guys from smaller countries and they usually have to walk through very biased results and most never get over the unfairness in fight after fight.

So - therefore, I clearly go for Martinez here.

I'm sorry, but is there a creature on Earth who hypes up former Pavlik opponents more than you? Grady Brewer is some world class dude in your book. Zuniga is like a 2nd coming of Trinidad since he knocked down Kelly (but obviously became "post-Pavlik shot" when Bute showed how to put a B-level puncher in his place). You even made Old McKart look like a prime Calzaghe for landing half his punches on Pavlik, but of course became ShotKart when Ornelas finished him sooner. Rubio is also some defensive wizard as he went 9 rounds with Pavlik, ignoring that Jantuah finished him 54 times faster at 154 lbs. Go take a Kofi break!

The "damn truth" is that you don't have a clue about boxing if your opinion is "Martinez is 0-1-1 vs. world class oppostition" and U R the typical boxrec graduate who doesn't watch fights if you say "he couldn't finish Cintron". But ultimately you must be a Kelly Pavlik hater, because you just dismissed Martinez as a loser who can't beat top guys, than called him the 4th best opponent of your favorite fighter, I mean that'd be harsh even from a hater. :thumbsup

I didn't expect you to argue about the career and wasted years of Maravilla Martinez, which is thread is all about, not Kelly Pavlik and his upcoming fight and style analysis.
