Can you believe this guy? He keeps coming back despite all the humiliation. No. I'm not drunk. If I'm drunk, I don't have remorse and think about the Goddamn meeting I'm gonna end up attending because I don't have alcohol problems. When I drink, it's a social thing with my friends and not a tool for false happiness. Now can we finally discuss Maravilla's career, wasted years and tough luck as "the opponent", or you're gonna trash this thread with more nonsense?

The guy disappeared for nine years after Margarito obliterated him. Since then he did what? He beat Bunema. He let Cintron back in the fight when he should have closed the show, and he lost to Williams. There isn't all that much to discuss.

Then what the hell are you still doing here? :patsch

Anyway, to our long-time British fans: what are your memories of Martinez in the Williams and Stone fights? I only saw him vs. Stone, heard the first Williams fight was a banger and the 2nd a one-sided affair. Can't find them on the net.

Yeah, I kind of envy you guys' wasting methods, being thrown out of bars, abusing police officers and girls etc. Shenanigans! :hey

Martinez is a very good fighter in many ways. I would not bet a penny against him if he were to rematch Pdub at 154. Since the Martyrosian/Ouma fought, I think young Vanes is lucky Sergio did not answer when he called. Martinez would smack the **** out of Foreman. In my opinion, Santos and Spinks are way past their peak. It's clear to me that the best man at 154 is either Martinez or Williams.

Alright Big Bone -- I gave Martinez his props.

Okay... I still don't see how it is related to topic (Maravilla being an underachiever due to boxing politics), but let me ask you then, which of the "0-1-1" did you actually watch to change your mind?

I think Sergio is an above average fighter, but i don't see him as a world beater. i woul dbe shocked if Pavlik gets beat by him.

Consecutive fights with Cintron, Williams, Pavlik does not make him an 'under achiever' due to boxing politics. What better fights could he 'achieve'? After Cintron you can say robbed. After Williams you can't say underachiever because it was a close fight and Paul is The Ring #9 ranked p4p. Now, after the Pavlik fight we will have to see what fits best. I have some ideas, but let's wait until after they settle it in the ring.

I've not only watched, but also carefully studied, Sergio's fights with Margarito, Bunema, Cintron, and Williams. When I point out Sergio's flaws and mistakes, I don't just pull that stuff out of my ass. I write about things I've seen with the same eyes I used when I said Abraham's straight right was a thing of beauty. It cuts both ways. I see things I like, and I see things I don't like, and then I write about both!

    Maravilla is underachiever no more!

What a beautiful display of sweet science and skills he always had, but lost long years flying under the radar due to boxing politics, then "guest treatment" held him back a little longer. But at the highest stage and biggest fight of his life, Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez showed incredible talent, heart and determination to overcome a huge test he was favored to lose.

35 years old! What a great story! Congratulations Champ, it was a very long time coming, but You deserve all the praise and the lineal World Middleweigh Championship! :happy
