The World Boxing Association will make a decision by next week regarding the controversial fight between Gabriel Campillo and Beibut Shumenov. The WBA will review arguments submitted by representatives of both fighters after observing the video. In the fight, which took place on January 29th in Las Vegas, Shumenov was favored by judges Patricia Jarman (117-111) and Jerry Roth (115-113), while Campillo was seen as the winner by Levi Martínez (117-111).
you know they are gonna say the decision was fair cause at the last WBA convention they awarded Shumenov with "WBA fighter of the month" or some bull**** like that. What a joke
So there will be a chance they actually overtrow the decision?! Normally I would say about damn time, but in this case there's a history about this fight which makes it so unfair to Shumenov if they change it now. It already was a rematch because of the controversional way Campillo won the first. :huh I know, two wrongs don't make a right, but how would you feel if you were Shumenov and they give it to Campillo again?!
bull**** man Campillo was straight robbed and Shumenov lost the rematch by a mile. Campillo is the better fighter.
Nothing's getting overturned. The best Campillo can hope for is that they order an immediate rematch or if Shumenov is allowed one defense, that the winner of that fight must face him.
By most accounts their first fight wasn't a robbery at all - Campillo went to Shumenov's back yard and beat him in a close fight. Although I'd love to see the verdict overturned and think it would be a positive step forward for the sport, I very much doubt it's going to happen. It would open up a can of worms that I don't think anyone particularly wants to deal with, regardless of the positive noises they might make.
That seems pretty likely to me. This is the same organization that has kept installing John Ruiz as a mandatory for a half a decade on account of "robberies". And considering how Shumenov seems to be trying to take the biggest fights possible, there's probably a good chance he would lose the belt to someone else if they install him as a mandatory anyway. The Garay-Henry winner is also supposed to be a mandatory, and the #2 guy is someone who's already beat Campillo (Uzelkov). Shumenov probably loses to half the guys in the WBA top 15, and the ones he would beat are no-names.
Remember the "investigation" launched by the WBA for Holyfield-Valuev? Yeah, NOTHING is gonna come out of this thing either.
