So im off to Vegas for my first major fight at the end of the month .. the Berto / Mosley card is looking really good so Im happy I went for the expensive tickets Also in vegas that friday is the Campillo / Shumenov fight at Hard Rock and looks like Showtime is broadcasting... Im a pretty serious boxing fan but I havnt seen anything or heard anything about these two guys .. Can anyone enlighten me and if this is a worth while event ? Any response is appreciated - cheers.
There isn't really much footage available of either of them. Campillo is the WBA light heavyweight champion. He's OK but very beatable, not a big puncher, and his best win by far is over Garay for the title. He lost to Karo Murat and beat Lolenga Mock at super middle. Shumenov is a young prospect who beat a faded Montell Griffin on points and knocked out an equally faded Byron Mitchell. He fought Campillo last August, I didn't see the fight but Campillo won a close desicion and it was supposed to have been quite an entertaining fight. You should definitely try and watch the fight if you can get there.
First off, I don't believe Showtime is broadcasting that fight. I've heard that the first Campillo-Shumenov fight was good, but I haven't been able to find a copy of it to watch it myself. Campillo is a pretty good and underrated boxer, a tricky southpaw who starts slow and tends to come on stronger late in fights. Shumenov is an offense-first fighter who leaves what he has in the ring. It should be a decent fight, and considering the tickets are pretty cheap, it might not be a bad fight to go to. Also, Oscar and Bernard will be there, and that type of smaller card is often a good opportunity to try to say hi to some more famous fighters who happen to be there.
