Many people are quick to cry robbery when their guy wins 7 rounds max. and doesn't get the decision. However, a close and competitive fight can never be a robbery. In the case of the rematch of Campillo and Shumenov the decision was a total disgrace. Campillo won 9-3 imo, if your very generous to Shumenov 8-4. It is totally impossible to give Shumenov any more rounds. How on earth did experienced judges like Patricia Morse Jarman and Jerry Roth give 9 slash 7 rounds? This was indeed highway robbery by Gary Shaw. Is there another decision in recent years that was that disgraceful? Williams vs. Lara comes to mind, but that fight was a lot closer imo. Shumenov was hitting Campillos gloves all night and running away while getting tagged with combination after combination. Thoughts?
its pretty obvious by now that most judges for big fights get a brown envelope delivered to there hotel room with a little note attached to it. promoters have to get some kind assurance after all alot of money hangs in the balance
I think that decision was just as bad as Chisora/Helenius from what I remember of it. Shumenov was getting plain beat up in some rounds and clearly lost. It's a shame for Campillo because he's good but also an unfashionalble fighter who is probably going to find it hard to get another title shot.
I certainly can't think of a worse one in recent years. Even more shocking than Chisora-Helenius. The second half of Campillo-Shuemenov reminded me of Calzaghe-Lacy in its competitiveness.
`Campillo is great imo, he got robbed vs shumenov and vs murat recently, also a previous close decision vs murat. He was recently brought in as a substitute to fight pascal or cloud I think, but showtime/hbo rejected it.
which was bull**** because it was a more attractive fight than cloud/erdei. showtime ****ed up with that one
Yeah they did, I feel kind of bad for the guy not getting any shots/credit. He is easily beltholder level.
