Can 1982 be viewed as the apex of the sport of boxing?

    and non title bouts also. we were blessed with Animal Fletcher-James Green, Hamsho-Czyz, Davison-Sibson, the emergence of Hector Camacho who would go on to end Ray Leonard's career in brutal fashion. Not to mention we still had Tony Ayala still with us en route to a showdown with Duran

    Nah, he´ll end up by some year either in the early/mid 40s or 30s.

    I can't think of a single year that would eclipse '82, no........besides all the stuff posted, we also had the biggest mega-fight of the era in Holmes-Cooney, which was just huge. In terms of mainstream appeal or attention, there are just a handful of fights in history (if that) that were more significant.

    Only problem with that is the lack of diversity. That's why I like the '70s for the influx of great South & Central Americans.
