Boxers hit harder than MMA fighters.

Look how much damage can be done in 6 rounds with boxing gloves

    what do you think?

Didn't the bareknuckle fights go on for several hours when noone was knocked out?

Boxers used to go more than 6 rounds with no gloves.

thats dismissive of velasquez - totally different situation.
i expect cain to challenge for his strap again by the way. he's a quality fighter with some serious snap.

essentially, floyd wouldn't be too unhinged by MMA regulated gloves

and in case anyone was wondering why floyd would get smashed in MMA, its because pure boxers can't adopt the same stance they would in boxing - it makes them easier to be taken down and they would repeatedly.

There are some fighters who could, I'm sure.

They fought with sheepskin 5oz gloves in Jack Dempsey's era.

Gloves are there to protect a fighter's hands & help produce brain jarring KO's that crowds love to see and occasionally deaths.

If you fight bare knuckle then you have to fight a lot more conservatively & carefully pick your shots not throw wild haymakers because you will break your hands as Tyson did against Mitch Green in the street.

Plus the bare knuckle Boxers fought under the London Prize Ring rules which were quiet different & allowed throws.

Fights often ended due to cuts & exhaustion.

To answer your question, yes of course.

When gloves were first instituted sometimes the gloves were as small as 2 oz which would be like wrapping thongs on your hands like the Greeks did when Boxing in the Olympics. For a while gloves varied between 4 and 6 oz before they settled into the current format of 8 oz for lower weight classes & 10 for the higher.

If you watch for example Floyd Patterson vs Ingemar Johansson III (full fight on youtube) the commentator mentions that they were wearing 6 oz gloves and they were HW's.

That is also the reason why you often see fighters holding their hands lower in the old days, they had to parry punches because of the smaller gloves.
