For a boxer? Its highly individual, some transcends better than others, obviously. Why would any top rated boxer go over to MMA, when boxers make more money?
Hmmm. . this will be an interesting question to posit in the "CHIN CHECKER'S" official thread. . . I wonder how the "iron chinned" warriors would fare?
This. . For a guy like, say, Devon Alexander - somebody comparable to his popularity, skill, etc. in the UFC would be making 40-60k per fight (base pay), probably around 150k with sponsorships, and maybe 200-300 after PPV revenue, and if they get a "fight bonus" like KO, Submission, etc. . Now in boxing, Alexander makes over one million dollars base pay. . .

at the top level? absolutely. unless you're a complete natural like jon jones. but hes the exception. boxers have the basics - good balance, reflexes and cardio. but you need to be a complete fighter in MMA, not just a complete boxer. you won't see much weight jumping in MMA and you won't see genuine multi-weight champions for two reasons..... 1. luckily, MMA is blessed because it isnt as fragmented as boxing with its blood-sucking federations. 2. and most importantly, that extra weight is everything in a weight category that isn't primed for you because nobody is a master of all disciplines. what guys like georges st. pierre, jon jones (will do) and anderson silva are doing now is a testament as much to their intelligence, sharpness, discipline, and adaptability as a fighter as much as anything else. i'm not discrediting boxing by saying this, i think guys who are at the top of both codes learn from each other.
This post pretty much wraps this thread up. Since boxing is strictly punching, you'd end up with a lot more broken hands and gauged eyes.
"The record for the longest bareknuckle fight is listed as 6 hours and 15 minutes for a match between James Kelly and Jonathan Smith, fought near Fiery Creek, Victoria, Australia, on December 3, 1855, when Smith gave in after 17 rounds." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bare-knuckle_boxing
mayweather would get KO'd in the UFC in the first 20 seconds of the fight the same way junior dos santos put cain down..
