it does if i live it. if they took a timeout for a beer or two and it still qualifies then so be it. i have no quarrell. but this is classic "dont believe everything you read" crocodile dundee stuff
so have enough character to leave it out over the net. otherwise it makes you look bad - anyone can do that
I bet he would dismiss Thrilla in Manila too if there was no video because there is no way he could be able to fight at that pace in that temperature :yep Or how about the "Saint Valentines Day Massacre" between SRR & Jake Lamotta, we have the full fight. No way that fight would have been allowed to go the distance in modern times. This ain't no Crocodile Dundee stuff, the Sakuraba vs Gracie fight is on youtube & we have several independent eye witness accounts confirming the length of fights like Joe Gans vs Battling Nelson (and highlights too), Sam Mcvey vs Joe Jeanette in Paris etc. Just because you can't do something doesn't mean anyone else can't especially when they fought in a very different style with a lot of clinching & pacing themselves. The complete 90 min fight: [ame="http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=605077178385624483"]http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=605077178385624483[/ame]
not with the same intensity we do now. formula one drivers 60 years ago use to take 30 minutes tea break during a race. the more money and TV schedules come into play the more intense it is - you should know that
Did wikipedia or anyone here claim that they fought at the same pace as you see on average today? You simply assumed that. Boxers of the past were not dumb mules you know, they paced themselves depending on the length of the fight & the rules under which they fought. No one can go Hagler vs Hearns on each other for 6 hours while fighting bare knuckle, in fact they couldn't go 1 round that way without someone breaking their hand (as Hearns actually did even with gloves on). And no there were no 30 min tea breaks, if you want to know how rounds were counted in the London Prize Ring rules get a book & read it instead of simply making stuff up & extrapolating from your own experiences.
no i'm being a realist sports are lucrative today - big money - and there are supplements to go with that. if i didnt know what i was talking about i wouldnt have said it
Strategy would change completely if Boxing gloves were switched with mma gloves. I wouldn't mind seeing it either.
I don't doubt a boxer could go more than 6 rounds with MMA gloves. There is a huge reason they are not used especially with todays fighters that keep on getting stronger, faster, and everything else. It will be extremely dangerous and cost many lives in the ring.
If Im the boxer, I'll make sure I can take it to be more than 6 rounds, with or without clothes on, just the MMA gloves, whenever I fight this monster: [yt]q7GeEKgl60Y#![/yt]
