I would like to know the answer to this question since many claim strength has little to do with knockout power. Sources of information will be useful as well

Power is exerting force over the shortest amount of time. This is a form of strength, but is different than being able to lift a heavy weight slowly. You still need general strength to keep your arms rigid on impact in order to transfer the force you generated from the punching motion.

weak as in? Pavlik, Hearns, McClellan, Wilder had string bean arms but all hit like like a truck. They all have relatively wide shoulders though.

David Price is as weak as it gets, but has KO power.

Ever see Frampton get dropped by the skinniest Mexican guy you ever saw?I think it shocked everyone inc Frampton.
Had this discussion with Mirko about fast twitch muscle fibres in fast bowlers in Cricket(yes I know it’s crazy that I got a serious answer out of him)but there’s been visibly strong guys who use their strength to hurl the ball at speed and then you’ll get some small skinny guy who creates the same pace as if from nowhere.

In the fast bowling case I would say it’s about rhythm and timing so I can imagine it being the same in boxing?
We probably don’t have a true sense of power anymore as there’s so many weight bullies but in the past four to ten pounds was massive.

I reckon i hit almost as hard when i was 25 kgs lighter and pre weight trained. I had much quicker shoulders without muscle mass on them.

You need rigid weakpoints. Wrist etc to transfer the force generated by your explosiveness.

So a explosive guy can be featherfisted.

Raw egg vs boiled egg so to speak.

Tito Trinidad maybe? His arms were puny, his chest was puny. It doesn't seem like he should've had the power he did, yet he did.

It all depends of what you mean by weak, does being "not physically strong" means you cannot lift outter weights, or does it mean that you also struggle with moving your body? Because if you're too weak to maneuver your own self (your own body) then yes it will be an issue to your punching power...you see, punching power is a lot about how you're able to move your own body weight, and in the manner that you move it, so you do not need to be the king of lifters, in fact, a major difference between lifting and punching is that lifting is more of a push (the force is generated at the start of the movement and ends lower) and a whip (the force is generated progressively throughout the whole movement until it reaches it's peak at the end).

There's many differences to note, I would recommend reading a few boxing books such as Championship Fighting by Jack Dempsey, or Boxing by Haislet. You can find these quite easily on the internet.

edit : bonus : check out Mikey Garcia vs Big Boy on youtube, it's quite funny.
