Can a fighter be considered "world class" if he never won a world title?

I always see it as - being able to compete against and beat the best guys in the world in your division.

Doesn't mean you're not world class if you don't beat the #1 or #2 guy. On the other hand, if you've lost to every top ten guy you've faced then you're not world class, you're more of a high-level gatekeeper.

The simple, though flimsy, answer to the question is "Yes, easily". It just depends on the meaning one gives to "world-class".

I, for one, believe a prime Bronco McKart to be easily word-class (though not because of the belt), because I usually operate with the assumption that a fairly deep weight class can probably have up to 30 "world-class campaigners".

In my book, "world-class" is not a particularily hard distinction to achieve, and it certainly doesn't mean "elite"

Yes and has been proven many times. Tua, Barrett, Toney, N'dou, Juarez and many others.

I always appreciate anyone giving props to Bronco. I still root for "Superman" anytime he steps in a ring. However, I kicked him out of the "world class" bracket because of his uncanny knack for losing his most important fights.

To me a world class fighter has seen different fighting styles and could hold his own while being competitive against different fighting styles.

Among more recent fighters, in the last two decades or so, Michael Watson and Herol Graham are a couple of examples.

David Tua was a world-class heavyweight contender.
