Yes, he was, but he is also 41 and not getting any younger. And for someone with his style (relying on speed) it is a lot. Even if he stays disciplined (which I doubt) I do not think he can beat anyone of notice. All major titles are now held by Klitschko brothers and Haye, and I do not see Toney doing well against any of them.

He might be able to beat some of the guys but def not the klitschkos. He wouldn't even be able to get past the jabs of the K brothers. But with the other heavyweights, who knows.

    I doubt it.

He's 41 years old, small for a heavyweight, a ton of mileage with over 80 pro fights and 600 rounds boxed (in addition to all that sparring), and he's looked pretty poor in most of his recent bouts.

even at 217 he still looks fat so no, but will that stop Toney from fighting, obviously not.

James Toney could win a HW title, but he will never be focused.

Only if Haye has a really bad night against Ruiz and loses. Toney might be able to beat Ruiz. Unlikely though, Haye will smash Ruiz.

Toney certainly does not rely a whole lot on speed. Unlike an Ali, Roy Jones, Prince Hameed, Toney relies more on his technique and subtle defensive moves to win fights.
