The term "Boxing Clinic" seems to require the apparent and ubiquitous use of movement, trap setting, evasion, etc..

But what about a one-sided, vicious, pressure beatdown? Can you ever call an instance of this a clinic?

    Cotto-Margarito I comes to mind.

You can use evasion and trap setting while pressuring an opponent, Zim. If a fighter does that (e.g. Armstrong, Chavez St., Duran), then it can absolutely be considered a clinic.

Cott-Margarito I wasn't completely one-sided, nor was it a particularly clinical performance. Duran-Lampkin, Chavez-Rosario, Armstrong-Sarron, Qawi-Saad Muhammad, etc. could certainly be considered clinical.

you cant call margarito/cotto a clinic....because margarito took too many clean punches to the face

shane mosley/margarito was a clinic...shane put a whooping on that boy....then floyd put a whooping on shane....which was weird because everyone said floyd was afraid of him....but it was actually pac who said "yer not oscar...143"....but after floyd whooped shane and then shane drew with sergio mora pac was like "ya sign me up"

    funny how things work

    Cotto - Malignaggi too.

    ...and Porter - Malignaggi...

Paulie might hold the ignominious distinct of being on the receiving end of more of the notable examples of a pressure clinic than anyone. :!:

..as much as putting a corset and heavy makeup on a 2-day-old corpse is capable of being a thing of beauty, yeah...

one sided vicious pressure beatdown I would call that a clinic on how to properly through devastating punches. a clinic on cutting off the ring, yeah I guess you can call it that.

Yes, but the example you gave is absolutely terrible and not an example of what you are implying. Floyd Chico is about as good an example as I can think of.

Nevermind, didn't see you wanted a pressure example.

    Porter vs Alexander?

(I know not really vicious or ridiculously one sided, but it fits that archetype)

Abso-fvcking-lutely. Chavez v Rosario was a one sided, pressure beatdown and it's every bit as much of a clinic as a boxer schooling someone from the outside.

I don't really agree with the notion that moving and jabbing for 12 rounds is more skillful than what Chavez and Duran would do regularly. That kind of pressure fighting; cutting off the ring, using subtle movements on the inside to avoid shots while unloading on your opponent is every bit as skillful as a Floyd or Whitaker clinic.

looking back on that fight I see it in a different light

at the time I taught it was a domination but looking back it was a pretty s****py affair where hatton was pumped up to the max by the crowd and fighting like a man possessed and doing what ever it took to win

It was more a case of kosta not wanting to be in the ring with a fighter like that. TBH I don't think many if any 140 fighters would have been able to share the ring with hatton that night
