Can Adam Booth improve Nathan Cleverly?

He ain't going to be any worse than Vince.

It seems that Booth likes to formulate very strict plans for his fighters to stick too. Although Cleverly is apparently a bright bloke, we don't really know whether he has the discipline to stick to a plan, and seems to inevitably get involved in a tear up.

Would Booth be able to harness his natural ability and encourage him to use his brain and boxing ability a little more?

 

Booth would probably get more out of Nathan technically than his father does, however you can't argue with the condition his father gets him into, he's got one of the best engines in the sport.

 

I think we can expect Cleverly to fight on the back foot in boring fashion if he hooks up with Booth.

This much is true.

Cleverly certainly has that Red Mist syndrome when he gets hit, his temperament appears to be rather awful to be honest. He could be fighting an intelligent fight and as soon as something lands he subconciously bails on his tactics and gets involved in a tear up.

That said, perhaps a more tactically astute, disciplinarian-type of trainer would be able to eliminate that from Cleverly's game. You can't really know if that would be the case unless he actually does switch trainers, but you get the impression that he almost has free reign to do his own thing at the moment, which would only be to his detriment in the long run.

Yes, definitely.

Adding any other attribute to his game will only improve him and Booth could, at the very least, improve his discipline.

Cleverly has an almost elite-level engine, which is great, but he needs a lot of work on technique, offensively and defensively, and discipline too.

The Dark Lord would undoubtedly improve Nathan, imo.

I dunno with Booth, Tactically astute i thought he was but he seems to be conjuring up the same forumla in each fight now. Like he's only just discovered 'hit and don't get hit'.

He be a damn sight better for Cleverly from a mental perspective and think would improve a few things but i don't feel he's world class at his job. He's good but not as good as many others who've trained world champions.

If you gave me choice stay with Vince or go to Adam i'd choose Adam but that doesn't say much.

 

I'd say Groves and Haye fight like that because they're a bit vulnerable.

 

As Bernard Hopkins once said 'If i have 50 bullets why fire them all just to make noise when all i need is 5'. Haye never needed to throw 100 punches a round cos he could win rounds with a few hard punches. At CW he'd win fights with a few punches..
