Can Agbeko make a run at being the 2nd best Ghanaian of all time?

...The likelihood of him surpassing Nelson...Good fighter but instead of asking if there are certain flaws that would stop him from doing so, I have to ask what he does have that would make anyone suspect he would in the first place.

He's already passed Clottey. And if he beats Mares and then goes on to beat Montiel and Donaire he'll def be passed Quartey.

:deal It's still too early to tell, but perhaps if he gets by Mares and maybe meet Donaire along the way, he'd make some serious noise. He had an impressive performance vs. Perez, befuddling Perez. I think he's going to give Mares the hardest fight of his life if he fights that way like he did with Perez. Agbeko showed he's not a one dimensional fighter and he can fight smart too and make adjustments. He learned from his loss with Perez, he didn't make the same mistake twice. I'd keep my eye on Agbeko.

it depends who says he cant become ghana's greatest ? i kno its not ikely but its possible beat mares win the tourney then fight the winner of donaire/montiel and he'll really improve his resume. allready beaten perez and darchinyan so adding mares and 1 of the other guys to it will be very impressive an i reckon he has the ability to do it

He certainly can if he has a long run.

He has a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG way to go to catch up to the greatest Ghanaian fighter of them all, Azumah Nelson, however.

He's already above clottey and with a win in this tournament he would be pretty close to bazooka Ike ....a few more years a few more big wins and I can easily see him passing Quartey but no way he ever tops azumah!

Joe could win the tournament, and then beat Darchinyan again in a rematch and Perez again in a rubbermatch (and hell, Mares again in a rematch for good measure) and still not be the 2nd best Ghanaian of all time.

Nelson and Quartey are out of reach.

He would have to have a very lengthy reign (even on top of the wins outlined above) and make more defenses than either, since the quality and depth of contemporaries in his division doesn't match theirs.

...Why would you think Clottey should be above Agbeko exactly? I can't see the case for him between the two.

What if he wins the tournament and beats the winner of Montiel-Donaire. I think a new scalp would be more helpful to his legacy.

It doesn't mean much but I read earlier that he's only the second Ghanaian to be 2-time world champ. Obviously, the other is Azumah.

Regarding Ike vs Vargas. Vargas won that fight clearly, and I do mean clearly. Was it a competetive battle? Hell ya. One of my fav fights of all time, and Ike showed he was a world class operator that night, but to say he 'arguably beat' Vargas is simply absurd. I agree he should have gotten the nod against Forrest though.
