Cuban Olympic Gold Medalist Odlanier Solis should go up to WBC #2 now that Maskaev lost. Solis is in a collision course with WBC King Vitaly. Question: If and only if Solis manages to motivate himself and trim 25lbs, do you guys think that he can finally put an end to the Klitschko myth? Solis is 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist, 3 times World Amateur Champ and defeated the legendary Cuban HV Felix Savon 2 times, also defeated David Haye... No other current HV is more accomplished than Odlanier... What do you guys think? I say an in shape Solis can easily beat big Vitaly, the question is if Solis is really serious to lose that fat...
solis has a weak chin and not the best defense, and this will be his downfall against vitali. but solis has real talent and he should come in at 230 and not 250 or 272
Chagaev beat the legendary Felix Savon twice as well and he wouldn't come close to beating Vitali. If Lennox or the Klitschko would have stayed in the amateurs as long as some of the Cuban fighters, they would have legendary amateur resumes. A short HW (by today's standards) like Solis would need Tyson - like speed to beat Vitali, I don't think he has that.
He hasn't proven he can fight at a rarified level or excite the division. Move him up in class before thinking of putting him in with Vitali.
Solis stopped Haye in the amateurs! However, Vitali will knock Solis out and if Haye ever gets the balls to fight Vitali he will get knocked more easily than Solis. Solis is Haye's conquerer.
At the age of 24 Solis was weighing in at 201 lbs. I doubt that 235 lbs would be his natural weight if he ate properly and trained well, and to put on 70 lbs since 2003 is absolutely pathetic. In fact, I don't think he would be much over 220 if he had a decent lifestyle. Rarified?
As in, he is totally unproven other than at the low level he has been fighting at. He is unproven at championship level in any quantity.
If Haye is the greatest heavyweight in boxing history, as some claim, then Solis looks pretty good. Wouldn't you say?
i saw solis , labour to defeat julius long. now julius long always comes to fight and gives it a go to the best of his abilty , but if you are a decent fighter , you get him out of there early and easily. solis struggled with the big man he gave solis a good fight that went the distance and solis won on points. solis simply does not have the firepower or dedictaion or style to beat vitali
For all his accolades in ametuer he looked slightly fragile back then. Then he moves up to Heavy Weight with all surrounding hype. In which he doesn't do anything special. Then he turned in FAT angainst Barret and then KO's him in two after he had been written off as another arreola. To me he is a different fighter at Heavy, and his amatuer record means nothing. He is talented and fat boy brings the muscle. I don't think his chin is a problem at heavy as it was back then. The guy is older and more mature and had a chance to workout. I think he is a heavy hitter and can back it up in terms of his beard. He's a real talent. It would be good to see him agains't other heavy hitters. He definately has more talent than vitali. It would be a really good match IMO.
He doesn't have a weak chin at all!? I don't think he was ever stopped in the amateurs. To me he seemes/seemed to be a bit of a slow starter (by amateur standards) and that goes for his defense as well, like he needs to first adjust himself to his opponents. I don't think he matches well with Vitali Klitschko at this time, he's too inexperienced in the pro's. Give him another 5 fights against good opposition. Oh wait, he's a heavyweight. There isn't 5 good opponents in the whole division.
